I was there today... got drenched though so wasn't pleasant. Managed to sneak into the Grandstand to watch the last 20 minutes otherwise would have left early. There's hardly any undercover area at Parramatta stadium and anyone using public transport also has to walk 15 minutes to the ground as well. I went and had a great time, but I don't blame anyone else for not attending given the fact it was a match that was always going to be a blowout.

Who wants to go to a football match where it's guarenteed to be a no contest???? Don't blame the public, blame the weakness of international rugby league.

I know it was only ever going to have one winner and I know it rained. But what a poor crowd it looked. Has an official attendance been posted anywhere?

Am I right in thinking international match attendances in Sydney are generally low? If so, why is that?

Oh and it was the coldest October day in Bankstown for 42 years today...puts today's coldness across Sydney into perspective also.

Frustrating to see a day with such bad weather at a stadium that gets affected by it a lot (see Eels Dude's post)

Yeah I was at the game too, about 1 or 2 thousand people left after the samoan/tonga game which had a far better atmosphere cos the crowd was so vocal! was cool! The crowd would have been 18,000 and PNG would have played heaps better if it was a nice day...real shame.

Next question then. Who do we blame for the weakness of international RL?

Certainly not the ARL, certainly not the NRL. It's up to the lesser nations to get themselves up to scratch. The RLIF isn't a cashcow, they make very little profit and what they do get goes back into the international game, but that is very little and probably less than 1% of what is needed to turn PNG into an international force.

Crowd was 11,308

Nice to see that Australia managed to draw a slightly bigger crowd than France v Wales.

It might have been better to hold this fixture outside Sydney - where RL Internationals are more unusual. That's (narrowly) the lowest crowd for an Aus v PNG Test in Australia.

Well England vs France only got 11,529 last year in England. So I guess it is on par for this type of match. I would be over the moon if the Kiwis got this for their match against PNG this weekend.

I guess they scheduled the game thinking it would be a nice day. If they thought it would rain (and would be cold as well), Skilled Park would have been better.

I was lucky to be in the Grandstand but admire anyone sitting out in the rain. It didn't stop the whole game.

It would have been more embarassing at the SFS or ANZ

They might have played it in Sydney to minimise the travel for PNG - the Kumuls may have wanted that.

And there were a lot of PNG supporters there and others who just cheered them on the day. It might have been easier for thier supporters to play in Sydney rather than Canberra or the Gold Coast.

Crap crowd especially in a RL City.

If they didnt have the Tongan - Samoan curtain raiser would the crowd then have been about 6000?

Was it me or did there appear to be more perople there for the Tongan - Samoan game?

Some people here have no idea!!! I went to the game and it rained non stop was about 10 degrees. Hail storm on Sat night wouldn't of helped. It was always going to be a Aust win the question was by how much so some people prob stayed home and watched it

Yeah, as I expected re: weather. Against a better opponent, say NZ, we would have sucked it up and made the trek. Unfortunately the lack of competition saw the comfort of our lounge room win out. We weren't the only ones it seems.

It certainly wasn't a family friendly day weather wise. I couldn't take my family as i worked all Sunday. Due to the weather my business turned over approx. 1/4 to 1/3 what it would have on a sunny october Sunday. Oh well, some bills can wait.
