Still living in the past Raiders fans?

Each year we hear how good the Raiders' coming season will be, how good their prospects are. I used to think they lived in the future. Now it's clear they live in the past.

The Cowboys don't have any history so I wouldn't expect you to understand.

You managed to beat the wooden spooners that year............congratulations.

The point youve missed is that while people always seem quick to lable the Cowboys as a one man team despite having several rep players (JT, Tate, Tonga, Scott) and other guns (Sims, Bowen, KFFL, Payne), we still win games without Thurston. Even during a time when we were so terrible that we only won 5 games in an entire season, we managed 2 wins without him.

Yes and we still win games without Campese and Dugan you complete mongoloid. There is a massive difference between not going into a game with them and losing them in a game. They play specialist positions that don't tend to have coverage

We have already won 2 games this year without Dugan and Campese. So if we win another 2 games this year we are only equally as shit as you lot were in that time period.

I haven't missed any point.

You lot started this by saying we are a one man team and Dugan is that man.

You mention you have rep players. So despite the fact we have guys like Shillington, TLL, Harrison, White, Campese along with our up and comers - Ferguson, Croker, Thompson etc.....they are all shite unless Dugan is playing.

Even though Dugan has only played in 1 of our 3 wins this season.

So the arguments you guys make for the Cowboys not being a one man team come off as extremely hypocritical.

Love the Cows but dead set our defence today was pretty bloody ordinary and I'm not talking about the first 20 minutes only. Let's be real about the game - Dugan stays on - we lose badly. We were simply not there and for some reason it took an injury to the opposition to turn our state of mind around. We actually started running and tackling harder after that injury. Before that, we were sitting back and watching him do whatever he wanted.

I don't think the injury to Campese made much of a difference apart from impacting on the rotation of players and therefore fatigue factor late in the game.

If the Cows defend like that against Manly next week, we are in big trouble. We still fall off too many tackles - 42 missed tackles for the game. Talk of the Cowboys being a one man team used to be fair enough but now with the quality we have, I don't think that is a fair statement.

A big chance to prove that wrong this week without JT at Brooky....

Not with Michael Morgan we won't, Segs can't be risked next week either we need to go into the game with Payne playing the 80, a heavy bench, and MWP in the halves with Thompson.

On a separate note, I'd really like to not hear Gary Belcher call another Raiders game on Fox Sports again.

Gary, loved you as a player, but as a commentator you are moron.

Good old 'Vadge' Belcher?

Worse Raiders tragic than Daley and Stuart.

They are all former players. I don't mind it really (obviously I support the Raiders). They are bound to have bias towards the club.

Right, commiserations Raiders fans, that loss will hurt you guys as the 'should of, could have' potential that it brought at the 20th minute with the scoreboard was amazing, I can only imagine the pain you guys are going through with this loss in both regards. The loss of Dugan was pretty big, do I think the Cows could have comeback even with him on the field???? Maybe, but it would have been a lot harder with him there, I guess we will never really know. Everything in the first stanza was going the Raiders way and as a Cowbs tragic it was highly frustrating watching everything we touch turn to shit in that opening 20 and everything the Raiders touch turn to gold. While Dugan was on the field we never really did anything because we never really had the ball and when we did we were atrocious with it. Our first contact in defence was terrible as well, you could see as soon as Dugan went off the attitude change in everything we did, I don't know why they didn't play like this to start with but better late than never I guess.

Tariq Sims........... my god............... This kid is special. Not only can he smash lads in defence, he was devastating with the ball. I think the Cowboys need to look at locking him up to a long term contract because every club will be after this boy and I hope we get to keep him. JT was good, so was Hall. A few of the lads looked real tired, I think Matt Scott looked fatigued today,I think the 1.5 weeks off he will get will do him the world of good but he will be playing a game 3 days after origin so he will be up against it. Seriously, if we can play a game like we can in patches in some games, we will be hard to beat. But there's too many flaws in some areas of our game at times for us to be a real genuine threat at the moment like the Dragons but if we can fix these up we are looking real good.

The slanging shit that is going on in this thread, FFS boys let it go. For every bag out one set of fans have, the other has another and equally witty retort. Both clubs have had their ups and downs, grow the f**k up.

Its just been one of those years beave. We haven't managed to keep Dugan on the park. He picked up a calf injury in one of our trials and with Campo being out its sucked as they are go to mens. How much we suck at hooker and the injury (and poor form) shown by TLL and Shillo and the complete non event of Orford its just been one of those years.

Papali and Williams have been the real positives. They are both guns.

PC, I know what you are saying mate.

My team has had probably the 3 shittiest years I can remember with nuff nuffs like Carl Webb and Antonio Kaufusi pretty much shitting on my beloved jersey and everything it's supposed to stand for along with all the other ass clowns we signed in this period. All you can do it I guess is chin up and keep going for your boys, easy to say when my team is trucking along alright but things change very quickly. You have a good team, you are just having shit luck at the moment. My team is similar, but we are having some good luck for once, and just quietly I think the f**ked out 3 years prior we deserve some.

I can see that beave is trying to drag this thread kicking and screaming into some semblance of respectability. So in honour of his efforts I will adhere to a more gracious tone.

North Queensland started today's match with a dreadful period of footy. We had next to no ball and when we did we squandered it without reservation. Canberra to their credit started very sharply and we simply couldn't match their energy and effort. The plays were coming with an air of predictablity. You know something is heinously wrong when Dallas Johnson is falling off halfbacks heading for the line.

A momentous change occurred of course, and most would seemingly put this down to an injury to that star Canberra fullback, Josh Dugan. Do I subscribe to that theory? Not in the slightest. I've seen the North Queensland side go through patches of ineptness a few times this season, yet they've shown an ability to front up even in the face of quality like Dugan possesses. I had every confidence we'd turn our game around, maybe to not win the contest but at least to provide a more sterner test for a competitive Canberra outfit.

This is the essence of the argument. North Queensland always had the capability to turn things around. With or without Josh Dugan providing the silky skills he employs. We know this as supporters because we've seen a dramatic transformation in our club in the last nine months. Is it not to much to expect other supporters to appreciate this also?

Canberra should take heart, but what can we really say about a side that relinquishes such a large lead so easily? I know the answer to that question because my side was doing just that not twelve months ago.

Playing Manly is a very difficult proposition indeed. They are an aggressive bunch who look hardened for any contest. Going into this match NQ supporters can look back fondly on our performance against this club recently in Townsville. We matched them at their own game, dominated the forward battle and subsequently troubled their goal line defense. Of course, doing that without Thurston is far more difficult. But we should remember that they will be without one of their strike weapons and forward enforcers in Anthony Watmough.

Being a NQ supporter this season allows one to be far more optimistic about our chances for each coming game. That's why I've taken umbrage to some of the outrageous claims and disrespectful comments made in this thread. No longer matters, we have the two points and I've had a great day.

You have access to some fine mind altering substances if you don't think our complete collapse wasn't directly caused by Josh Dugan getting injured.

Desert Qlder, you might support the same team as me but you sound like a twat. We're discussing a footy game, not writing a thesis.

Was an exciting game, we basically won it off the back of two 10 minute spurts at the back end of both halves. Dugan injury helped, I don't think Campese going down really affected the result though.

NQ have come a long way, I'm glad the boys are winning games frequently enough for us to criticise the bad wins, we would have killed for a display like that last year. Commiserations to the Canberra fans, simply ran out of gas
