Match threads for WCC and Charity Shield separate. Both are televised matches.

Teams, score updates etc to come... discuss away.

Trial Match Preview: Sharks v Knights
Warrick D. Nicolson

16/02/2012 11:25:33 AM

Muswellbrook gets another taste of NRL football this Saturday night when the Cronulla Sharks take on the Newcastle Knights in the final trial of the pre-season for both teams.
This will be the second trial the NSW country town has hosted between the two teams, with the Knights winning last year’s encounter 32-10 in front of almost 4,000 people at Olympic Park.
Cronulla will welcome back Jeremy Smith from suspension for this game and the New Zealand international named skipper in the absence of Paul Gallen who won’t play due to a nose injury.
Also in the Sharks side are forwards Anthony Tupou, Josh Cordoba and Andrew Fifita who missed the 38-6 trial victory over Manly on February 3 at Toyota Stadium.
Read all about Cronulla's Forwards and Cronulla's Halvesin the 2012 Season Preview.
With coach Shane Flanagan’s combinations closer to being settled, this trial represents the final chance for a number of players to force their way into the squad for Round 1. Todd Carney and Wade Graham line up in the halves once again with Chad Townsend on the bench, while the three-quarter line looks settled with Stewart Mills and Matthew Wright on the wings and Ben Pomeroy and Colin Best in the centres.
There appears to be more competition for places in the second row and with Gallen rested; Jayson Bukuya, Sam Tagataese, Mark Taufua and Tyson Frizell will be doing their best to impress against the Knights. Another positional battle sees utilties John Morris and Jeff Robson fighting for a spot on the bench behind starting hooker Isaac De Gois, who takes on his former team.

Jayson Bukuya gets his chance at lock

Newcastle have named a 22 man squad for the trial, with the likes of Danny Buderus, Darius Boyd, Akuila Uate and skipper Kurt Gidley all set to play.
The people of Muswellbrook are in for a treat, especially if Todd Carney turns on the style like he did against Manly two weeks ago.
The NRL trial starts at 7:30pm.

Full Time Panthers 26 Eels 10

Hayne looks to be in trouble with a nasty knee injury. Be a shame for the Eels if it is serious.
Walsh seems to have sharpened up a bit now we have a coach that isnt a spastic, hopefully it continues.

On twitter hayne and mannah only 2-3 weeks at this stage

Eels site doesn't mention hayne but mentions mannah and smith injured

I know it's only a trial but I'll take any win over parra. Is that our first win with Ivan?

The important thing is it was a type of trial you need. We had no injuries (Except a cork to JTK). Both there tries off kicks our defence was outstanding no silly penalties or errors. To do that without Lewis or Jennings is great. It needs to be done over 15 games to matter.

Holy crap Walsh tore them apart. He ran the ball, put players in gaps & made tackles. We made metres galore outwide. The last Pass went into touch atleast 4 times with unmarked wingers. Having new combos don't help that especially with Austin playing most of the game at centre.
