Ah so the Knights are aiming for the old look like they're going to win then lose anyway trick to make me hate them this week.

Mission accomplished, it was never in doubt. Being the ultimate pessimist I knew as soon as we had been ahead 14 - 10 for a while we were going to lose 16 - 14.

Their problem isnt the coach, it's a complete lack of talent and ability within the squad. It's an awful team.

Showing your complete and utter lack of knowledge when it comes to judging footballing talent again, raider? I thought skeepe had the mortgage on that down there.

Those green tinted glasses must be a hinderance in your day to day life. No wonder there's so many pregnant sisters and embarrassed brothers down that way.

Except those teams will likely have expectations of beating most football teams, especially on home turf

Doesnt matter which way you slice it, 4 point gap is a 2 week buffer on every other team in the comp. 6 points to 11th position too.
Especially with the sides on the outside looking less and less capable... Knights, Penrith, Dragons, Warriors... please. You excuse me if im not looking over the Raiders shoulders

One week at a time Raider. Knights could go on a run (like us last year) and we could get hit by injuries and drop down.

The coach has a proven track record of being very good, most within that squad have a proven track record of not being very good

Not even Saint Benny can polish that many turds. The forward pack stinks (with a few young exceptions), the only club with a worst hooker rotation than the Raiders, Mullen has never and will never be more than a solid NRL footballer, and is not capable of dragging his side to any great heights without significant help, the backline is good but what is the point of that if your pack and halves cant give them enough chances to shine?

They need at least 2 more front rowers, a half to pair with Mullen, a hooker, 2 quality back rowers. TBH Boyd could do with an upgrade, Princess Darius just doesnt put in every game
That is a lot of holes to fill.

Our backline is pretty damn impressive to keep the likes of Kevin Naiqama out when he'd get a run at a fair few other sides. The service they get from Mullen can't be faulted (did you see his cross-field chip today?) and I am not ready to say Gower's presence is an out and out failure.

He didn't get a chance to play at first receiver tonight. Roberts really needs to go and Gower needs his opportunity to organise.

Mullen has been playing absolutely fantastic football these past few weeks. I'm glad Daley isn't aware, because he's so far ahead of Pearce in both form and quality that he'd be a far better option for us in the NSW side even if he were out of his preferred position.

As for the pack - Mason and Smith are older, but they're far from slow or useless. Cuthbertson, Snowden, Sims, and Rochow can't be faulted either.

I'll grant that House and Costigan are awful and that we really do need at least one more mongrel forward in the pack. Beau Scott hasn't produced anything.

Hooker = utter ratshit. Bennett is afraid to blood Clydesdale too early, but with Buderus and Gidley still out, we need a better option than Waddell. Buderus was in cracking form prior to his injury. Gidley less so. He should be fullback anyway. Boyd is more miss than hit.

Wellp better stop the competition, sounds like the Raiders have it won already..

Pretty funny considering all the Knights fans talking it up because they were in the Top 4 after Rd 5.

They had a favourable draw to start the season which included many home games and now they're being found out, losing 6 out their last 7.

I think you'll find most Knights fans were well aware we were facing weak teams and looking unconvincing in the victories we had - however lop sided they appeared on paper.

Fans excited when a team is doing well? How dare they...What is raiders fans obsession with trolling knight's game threads anyway?
Back on topic, once again our ball handling lets us down at least we will have Buderus back after the bye hopefully with Gower off the bench meaning no more Waddell, credit to the raiders for winning with him in their side somehow.

That final try to Slater was probably the most literal example of turnstile defense from Byod.

Frustration at being second behind Newcastle as NSW's best country city.

In the last seconds Tyrone Roberts has a 3 man overlap outside him and passes to a Melbourne player.

How can Newcastle keep an imbecile like this?

At the post match press conference Bennett said two important things: (1) He was pleased with Gower
(2) Buderus will be available for the next match.

My conclusion: Buderus should play at hooker and Gower at scrum half. This is the only combo, along with Mullen at five eighth, that will allow Newcastle to make the playoffs.

Far from it
the top 4 are clearly the best 4 teams in the comp. We're just one of the teams chasing and hoping to put ourselves in a position to compete with them when it counts. Long way to go, Storm, Souths, Manly and Roosters are top 4 for an exceptionally good reason.

But we've beaten two of them, and pushed the 3rd. Yet to play souths, who's style will really worry us. But we're in there with a fighting chance... which is more than i can say for sides 4 points out of the top 8

I'd agree with you. I don't rate Gower quite as highly as you seem to, but I do think he'll be a better influence on the side than Roberts - who looks like another in the long production line of almost first grade standard halves we seem to produce.

A great game today...both sides defended strongly and it could have gone either way.

Storm played an uptempo game today to try and tire the Knights but the likes of Mason and Scott stepped up and kept it tight in the ruck and it almost worked.

Storm looked directionless without Cronk and with Finchy you do not know what is going to happen...having said that the straight running of Finch was a breath of fresh air and worked well. Proctor and Harris looked strong on the side of the ruck.

As for Newcastle...Mullen was strong in the first half but went missing when it mattered. Boyd is a definite passenger and needs to pull his finger out and get involved. Jeremy Smith needs to lose the hip toss tackle...predictable as it does not wrap the arms of the attacking player.

What do the Knights need...a couple of keen young players to be mentored by the likes of Mason and Scott not the likes of Gower who has seen better days.

Why not both?

I thought we looked much better with Gower out there than Waddell, and I daresay he'll be a better play-making option than Roberts as well.

If Buderus is back next week, I'd like to see Bedsy at #9, Gower at #7, and Clydesdale on the bench.
