Death, taxes, and Raiders fans whinging about the referees. I remember the last few years, particularly when Brian Smith was at the club, that we would do the same thing in the Knights sub-forum. The truth of the matter, of course, was that we were supporting a marginal team that relied on said penalties to win a football match. The good teams don't lose too many matches to a few missed penalties. They're controlling possession in the match, regardless. When they concede a penalty, they defend it. When they don't receive one, they defend it... and when they get their chances to score or to complete their sets, they take them.

Yes, you got some really dud calls from the referees. It's not much of a factor in why you lost the game, though.

Oh, and I know which Grand Final people remember in 1997... I don't really care what the books have to say on it (although they favour our premiership, regardless). In much the same way that we had no premiers in the years that Melbourne cheated the cap, we had 2 premiership winning Rugby League teams in Aus that year. I think most Knights fans and most Broncos fans are comfortable with that, to be honest.

We are more whinging about one of our best players being taken out by a cruel and twisted piece of foul play.

A more despicable head clash you are not likely to see.

You are being silly if you don't consider the uate incident a game changer. As annoying as it is to lose Ferguson for the next few weeks he still finished the game. Not only did you guys score the play after uate took wighton out but he went off the field injured forcing us to restructure the entire side.

I mean I don't give a shit we lost otherwise I'd still be crying tears all over the various other GDTs I give a shit that now we have even more players injured and we got no real justice for it.

If uate and buderus had been penalised and you guys had won a million to nil I'd not be in this thread.

Hell (an excuse the double post) I'd not be in this thread if there was no penalty but no injury. Its that special combination of no penalty and injury that's got me motivated enough to be talking about it x days after the match.

Haha, of course it was. ;-)

Agree with you that it sucks that Fergo is injured, and that Buderus didn't get penalised. I would say that dropping the refs this week is the least they can do... but it's probably the most they can do, too.

Uate's was probably accidental, he's just dead set useless with his placement under kicks... especially high ones. A penalty was definitely appropriate there, too.

What justice would you have done, though? You can't really punish the players and make them miss games because the on-field refs didn't give it the appropriate punishment at the time. Suggesting that either incident was worth more than a penalty would be absolute clown shoes.

I would also like to point out that the 97 grand final is regarded as one of the best in league history, not only because it was a great game, but it's also regarded as the grand final that saved league. This is an opinion if the greater league community not just knights fans

The only thing better than the final score is the fact that two absolutely despicable human beings that play for a disgustingly reprehensible club are injured and were hopefully in pain as well. <- skeepe if the result was reversed.

Ya know, for all the trolling that goes on here, that's a pretty f**king stupid comment to make. It fails on almost every level.

I'm embarrassed for you.

So are you saying that there were two comps in 1997 and you guys won the one without the Raiders and Broncos, the two dominant teams of the 90s?

Giving you .5 of a premiership was being charitable. It's more like .3.

Lol nobody gives a shit about the superleague sellouts and the irrelevant competition they competed in. Ask any league fan who won the comp in 1997 and 99% of them will say Newcastle and probably forget that there was even another "competition" that year.

A penalty on the field would have been sufficient. As I said injuries happen and neither were malicious.

what sucks is I can practically see the first nrl player suspended for an accidental head clash in a shoulder charge (this incidental contact rule they are bringing in) will be a raider in a piece of sporting irony so annoying I fear I might die from the outrage. Especially if its a returning campese or something.
