Gagai's goal line defense was the biggest deciding factor. Wright and Carney strolled past him for tries. He's famous footwork failed him turning in chasing for Wrights second (no) try.

He's a great young talent but he's got some big flaws to fix in his game

Pretty much the best assessment that could be given.

Also - considering Gagai has played less than a season at centre (IMO the hardest position to defend) it's too much to ask that he wouldn't have a few defensive issues from time to time. And it really is only a few. He's usually great in defence. Uate is our issue usually.
