Should other sports abandon their mismatches as well, or just rugby league?

Within context, yes. Australia can't lose a place and Ireland can't gain a place. We all know this is going to be ugly. What's the point?

Australia will, at least should top the century in this one.

If they do, will that be good or bad for the World Cup?

I think Australia will take it easy in this game. Me thinks Sheenius is going to be thinking that preventing injuries are the most important thing here.

Ireland with no pressure and Australia who wouldn't want to try too hard in some areas to risk injuries plus would want to try out some new things in such a game. It won't be a blow out as some expect but should be a 40+ win for Australia

I imagine the Irish players are just excited to play against the best players in the world in this match-up.

Incorrect. Australia have to win to win the group. Bit disrespectful to the Irish to already claim victory (I'm sure the players aren't)

of course the game serves a purpose, for the Irish to improve they need to play against the best to get a feel for the standard. it'll also be good for irish supporters to eb able to watch an australian team play live and it's important for australia to figure out who's going to be in the final 17 for the rest of the tour.

from the side released today i cant for the life of me work out why cameron smith or paul gallen are playing this game

Did we work out which jersey's Australia and Ireland are wearing?

If the France/NZ game in Avignon is anything to go by Ireland will be forced to wear their clash strip at home, which is just ridiculous. Samoa should be obliged to wear their clash strip on Monday also.

Smith, Gal and Tamou have not had a rest yet and are unlikely too for the rest of the tourney now

It certainly is weird considering they all had niggles over the season and certainly wouldn't be lacking match fitness

Aussie team named - Hayne wing, Morris twins in the backline, DCE five-eighth with JT on a 7 man bench.

There are no "home teams" as such in the world cup - the "top billing" is given to the higher ranked nation in all clashes. Hence why the first game was Australia v England, not England v Australia.

Therefore with Australia #1, they only need to wear one jersey, everyone else changes. Simple.

Odds on favourite for the biggest margin of the tournament - a mark which is likely to be eclipsed by Australia in their very next game against the US.
