He was a union player in Wales before heading northeast to play our game.
Thanks for explaining. He was a union player in Wales before heading northeast to play our game.
Cardiff RFC never picked him up as they had never picked black players before at that time so he switched to league a year later.
Sully should have got a knighthood as well. First black person to Capt a British/England team in any sport, won CC, won world cup as Capt. Became a legend in Hull. Thanks for explaining.
I think I missed Billy Boston, but I remember watching (tv) Clive Sullivan. Also Welsh I think.
Probably not, you have to play cricket, soccer or union to get recognised!Genuine question, if England cam to Australia and won the world cup next year, would any of the players be knighted? And how much national attention would it get? Considering it would have been England / GB's first World Cup win in decades and the first team you'd assume to beat Australia since 2006.
How about the mainstream media? Do you think they'd get behind it?Probably not, you have to play cricket, soccer or union to get recognised!
Seriously though it wouldn't be a knighthood, they are reserved for a few, only been about 20 in soccer, 10 in Union.
Union coach got a knighthood when england won 2003 World cup rest of the team got other honours (MBE's, OBE's), but I wouldnt hold my breath though that RL would get the same recognition!
Never in the UK is my experience of living and working there for 10 yearsHow about the mainstream media? Do you think they'd get behind it?
Yeah but would a world cup win move the needle?Never in the UK is my experience of living and working there for 10 years
Union in the UK has the majority of the media in it's pocket
Of it had been in Uk it would have had more impact but in Aus probably less so. We can but hope!Yeah but would a world cup win move the needle?
Unlikely I would have thought with union having a majority of the media in their pockets, but we can but hopeYeah but would a world cup win move the needle?
