It says a lot about the coaching staff and selectors when the only Australian player dropped in the entire tournament was Daniel Tupou, a winger, when the problems were in the forwards and the halves

Dont forget Aidan Guerra. Had to play out of position in the centres in the first game and got dropped while plodders like Boyd Cordner and Josh Jackson got spots.

There were a lot of young and in experienced players in this Australian team. Throw in Thurston, Scott (both Matt and Beau), Slater, Myles, Hodges, Morris twins and Australia might win.

They came so close in the end, had the pass been backwards, wouldve been a great finish, Smith mightve converted it from out wide.

But the better team won in the end. New Zealand had a much better forward pack, and their halves worked well with Foran and Johnson.

Interesting stats from last night, Australia's first loss in New Zealand since 2003, first loss in Wellington since 1953, first time since that year they lost consecutive matches to New Zealand, they lost 4 in a row to the Kiwis from 1952 to 1953.

And only the 2nd time since 1978 theyve lost 2 matches in a major tournament.

Not sure if it's been said as I can not be f**ked to read the thread but why was Hunt not bought on around the 60th minute or so when they game was not entirely out of reach. Cooper and Dce were offering nothing. Sheens is an absolute f**king potato

lol @ writing off dylan walker, a 20 year old who has played 40 first grade games, as never to play for Australia again.

Probably better for the experience, along with Sione and others.

this.

when i look at alot of the selections in the kangaroos squad it makes me think they were focusing more on the next world cup, because they know alot of australia's best players might be too old when the next world cup comes along, so they want alot of younger players to get as much experince at this level before the worldcup, even if it meant sacrificing a 4 nations tournament win

Tbh I think DCE is a tough player. To put up with the niggle and extras he has to put up with and still get on with it speaks a lot for his character.
Walker I might have been a little harsh. He was thrown in the deep end and probably isn't ready.
Jennings is still not given the credit he deserves from fans on this site. His defense is outstanding and a constant threat.

That's his problem. Needs to stop running in big arches to get around defenders and start running in straight lines!

His footwork and line running are appalling. Relies completely on his speed to get around bad defence.

You can only pull off that lateral, arched type of running if you've got serious speed and footwork a la Johnson, but even he doesn't pull it off all the time, like when he got run into touch near the end of Saturdays game.

So glad to be at that game live, revenge for the 50+ point thrashing we got last time the Aussies played in Wellington!!

While the atmosphere was great, I gotta say that the kickoff time of almost 9pm local time is ridiculous, main reason for not getting a 30K+ crowd I reckon. Would've deterred a lot of families from attending live.

If anything the acid needs to go on Cronk and DCE IMO...both should have taken the game by the scruff of the neck when they had the momentum but the only one doing this was Cam Smith. Cronk is robotic and even when he plays for Storm all he does is flick an inside ball or two or kick to the wings...no flair whatsoever.

It shows that Thurston is miles ahead of these two and DCE is not playing to potential at present.

Klemmer was great in this tournament and proved himself as a genuine test forward...as for Thaiday, Papaalii and Parker...time to move on.

Never mind the fact that papalii has played his entire career in the second row, running out wide....

Boyd Cordner was horrendous, both against Samoa and NZ. A pair of the worst performances at rep level in a long time
