in hindsight the battle for the fullback position of NSW was never in any doubt

Dugan wouldn't of been able to do half of what Hayne did tonight

We scored 2 tries off Hayne's individual brilliance, and our only line breaks were from Hayne also. Don't know what sort of attacking organisation you think Hodkinson was doing?

All I saw was a man constantly just throw inside balls when it was there to be spread, or put in terrible territorial kicks to the point that he was hooked from kicking duty in the 2nd half

Besides Hodkinson and Reynolds running both of the try scoring plays exactly as they do at the Bulldogs of course

I sledged him early doors but gee at the back end he was immense in defence. Hoffman should be the one to go for Bird. He is another Creagh.

Hoffman left me puzzled. I didn't notice him do much but when he came off he looked absolutely buggered. Odd. Either way, both Scott and Hoffman should get a bench spot. I didn't feel our bench had the impact I expected it to.

there is no way JT will play in game 2 as badly as he did tonight...he looked pretty filthy with himself in the sheds after the game

DCE in from the start, couple of changes to the bench, I reckon we can take it to a decider at Suncorp.

How good would that be?

Blues will also have Fifita and Bird back

NSW desperately needed steady halves, since they have had great forwards and some great backs (winger always an issue) for quite a few years, but look lost when it matters.

Hodkinson and Reynolds surprised me by doing exactly what NSW needed, and what they were picked for. They played a sensible, steady game with good options, the chance of repeat sets, and no bad defensive lapses.

This helped the NSW forwards feel confident to offload, and then Hayne could handle the spark. NSW normal dependibles like Gallen, Lewis, Watmough and Farah did what they needed with good structure and spark provided from the halves and Hayne. They should have more of that "reliable" play with Bird and Fifita back game II, but pressure will be on their halves if Reynolds is suspended (unlikely to miss 3 weeks though, you'd think).

But the best thing NSW did that they never do, was defend, really well, set after set, even with things going against them. They can all be congratulated for that, even some of the players who were more quiet in attack.

QLD played well, their forwards really started dominating the second half (but I think they really missed Thaiday), DCE, Smith, Thurston and Inglis had dangerous moments, but unlike QLD normally, they didn't quite have enough when needed. Their backs are starting to look a little slow, but all very reliable still, so QLD will have to stick with them and hope Thurston/Smith/DCE can create something special in game II.

Probably the gutsiest win NSW have ever produced. I was waiting for the standard heartbreak for the whole final 10 mins, then cheered the house down when we held on

GO BLUES!!!!!!
so much class from your captain uncourageous afterwards. 'they got all the calls those last 3 minutes'.

paul. you won, sore winner too. just cannot help himself.

Congrats to NSW on the tough win. After giving up an easy first try I thought QLD would build on that and win by 6 lengths in a canter. However, the blues forwards rolled their sleeves up and completely dominated from then on till the last 15 mins and were still strong and desperate enough to hold off wave after wave of attack aided by a leg up from Shane Hayne. Cannot wait for game 2. Me thinks DCE will rub eggs on the faces of the spastics on this forum calling him overrated and set up a thrilling decider.

dce was ordinary, played as if he was still a utility/backrower instead of hb. Gonna have to combine better with JT in game 2.

Great game, but the first half was very stop start which probably suited NSW more than QLD.

Fantastic defence. Queensland threw everything hey had at us, and we refused to crack. Unbelievable effort from the boys. That's he kind of desire, the kind of will to win that's been lack so often over the last 8 years. So proud to be a New South Welshman tonight.

New South Wales looked more composed and professional than usual. Didn't have that frantic ness combined with extra grubbiness they have in the last few years. A really classy performance and a deserved win against some real piggybacking from the ref

Also Tony Williams was crap, why is he playing?

DCE was odd, went too hooker a lot, its as if he didn't relise Cronk was out and they now needed a halfback.
