Goodness me, there has been some blunders in this.

I find myself constantly asking how a professional code like the NRL is officiated so poorly.

Not every penalty in that situation is professional. It didn't look that blatant to me. If you're an inch offside it's not professional.

The ref makes a decision on every possible try. He rules on it by calling try or no try, the video ref is now simply just something that checks whether the ref is right or not. By definition it rules on what the ref has already ruled on.

And the call should stay with the ref, not slow the game down to freeze frames that happened 20passes earlier.
If Melbourne went to ground, scored the next set there would be no outcry of a knock on in the previous play etc.
