Except if they are "downtown", as mentioned previously.

"Any player who is in front of the kicker in general play is not permitted to advance beyond the point of the previous play- the-ball until the ball has gone past the offside players."

In such a case, the player is considered "out of play" as opposed to being offside, and hence can't be put back onside. Clear error by the video ref, but the better team won on the night.

That is only up until the point that the ball is played at, that then renders all players outside 10m of the ball onside (otherwise only the kicker and onside players could move past the line of the play of the ball, which is silly). If the "downtown" player had encroached within 10m of the Manly player he would have been considered offside and could not pick up the ball.

Tim Browne was more than 10m from the Manly player therefore was onside. I seem to recall you could even hear the refs on the coverage mention it (or could have been the commentators, not sure)

The forward pass on the other hand, was a mile forward. It was def a no try, not arguing that

Yes he was out of play, until the Manly player played at the ball. That puts everyone back onside, regardless of whether they were a downtown chaser or not. If the ball hadn't hit Manly's player, then all well and good. Fact is it did and it's play on.

I disagree, but the better side won (IMO), so I have no issues with the final result.
