Nine applicants confirmed

Hull FC
Huddersfield Giants
Toulouse Olympique
London Broncos
York Knights
Bradford Bulls
Doncaster
Widnes Vikings
Oldham

As expected, really. Doncaster and Widnes somewhat surprising, as both seem some way off the standard required. Hull and Huddersfield trying to preserve their status in the league, which shouldn’t be a problem for either based on IMG points. Nothing from Salford, I don’t know if that is blind optimism that they think they’re safe or they’re willing to accept their fate and a relegation with it.

Lol, you really think Salford is a chance?!

At what point does the NRL stand in?
Key clubs that are smart would be reaching out to the NRL now surely!
Not only is this a poorly run league with no direction sinking rapidly.. it's seeking to expand!! With no real plan on how it will be financed, broadcast or run. Actually, some government funding might be pulled and broadcasters left in the lurch..
Now the clubs who were duped into this whole circus are having buyers remorse..

"leadership gave a presentation at an informal owners’ meeting before the vote in July, multiple requests from several clubs for a detailed financial analysis underpinning expansion have gone unanswered.

No documents were provided at the formal shareholders’ meeting where the vote took place, and the minutes of that meeting have not been shared."

The time is NOW NRL !! make some calls !!!

Perth red thinks it's a no brainer for the NRL to expand 4000km to 2 million people in Perth...but openly against the SL being expanded a tenth of that distance to 9 million people in London...

He's contractions have no boundaries.

I don’t understand, if the NRL want to invest, why they want a 10 team league … ???

That either leaves us with an 18 round season, which is too short, or a 27 round season, which is too long and everyone gets sick of playing each other three times!

I don’t understand why they wouldn’t want a 12 team league, with a top five play-off leading to the grand final, as was the case in the NSW/Australian rugby league for many years

I think, it's because the competition needs to consolidate its talent pool and resources to increase the quality first.

Yeah, that was the biggest “issue” I had with the idea of ten. It would likely be an 18, 22 or 27 round season which ranges from too few games to plenty of loop fixtures, which were much maligned and from the last time we did that as a competition, it watered down rivalries because the suspense and tension in the lead to to a derby game was taken away because you were playing each other every six weeks.

I assume that the NRL didn’t think there were more than 10 teams of a sufficient standard to warrant more teams in the comp and if that was the case, I do agree, though it would have created issues with the fixture list and I’m not sure clubs/fans would have seen past that. There’s a handful of leading clubs in Saints, Wigan, Warrington, Leeds and then probably behind them in a couple of areas is probably the two Hull’s and Catalans. That’s 7/10 straight away, the remaining 3 could have been any of about 9 clubs in all honesty. You’ve got Wakefield and Leigh making good decisions off the field and investing onfield, for example.

I think the biggest thing would be killing off promotion and relegation. It just doesn’t work in rugby league and doesn’t allow for clubs to plan and invest, it just creates short-term thinking for a number of sides and clubs go big on their squad rather than investing in infrastructure and assets.

Has the SL given up on the IMG process already ?

Sounds like it.
Not at all. The top 12 img graded clubs will be in SL as was always the case. Very sensibly they are conducting a seperate review to see if there are two strong enough clubs outside SL to join in 2026.

nice Strawman lol
if London had:
4k jnrs
a 20k stadium they were capable of filling
businesses lining up to sponsor
and a London council willing to chip in 50mill

then we could compare the two cities admission to a top tier lol

Current 11 SL clubs plus London, York and Bradford from next year has a better chance of success. All the games key stats are trending up, we just need a decent tv partner.

Growing up I discovered demolition first, I guess because we only had WWF in Australia at the time. To me Legion of doom seemed like powers of pain rip off.
All based of course on mad max characters. LOD were beasts in the ring, Warlord was probably too big to be effective in those days
