It stuns me that even people are writing off the Dragons, let alone any team, on trial form. It was clear to me Souths took the game a lot more seriously, and the Dragons were subbing/rotating players all the time.

Not a lot to take out of it IMO, same goes with all the trials. Even if Canterbury put 40 on Melbourne tonight (unlikely) I don't think you can take a lot out of it.

Dragons started at essentially full strength against a team with their 3rd and 4th choices halves standing in and the Dragons attack is the one who looked like there was absolutely no pre-season training done together as a team.

Souths trained for a Keary / Reynolds combination. Neither played. Dragons had their star 5/8 and both guys fighting to partner him, and didn't look close to being on pace until the Souths had the game in the bag and were rotating in guys who are next to no chance at a first grade spot. I would say the Dragons are being written off because it looks like nothing has changed since last year... they have the same shitty coach and the talent they have at the club is being wasted.

Mate, we've got a front rower playing at lock, 2 second rowers as our props, arguably the worst decision making hooker in the game who can't throw a consistent pass to save his life. Widdop, Dugan and Thompson won't fix that.

We just don't have a very well balanced side, and a coach without a clue. We'll place 10-12th at best this season.

Granted it's only a trial, but even with the new recruits, we look like an extremely poorly drilled offense... And defensively, well nothing has changed there either. The shield is always a poor indicator of form, but to be honest, even the nine's showed some worrying signs and we tried to field our best possible squad.

26 rounds is a long time to turn it around, but we've been pretty damn consistent for the last 3 years.

From what I hear in the first half, Manly's team was primarily made up of players from their NSW Cup team.

Their stronger team played the second half.

Manly also took 34 players (I think) to the Eels' 23.

No doubt - in the first half, we pumped them, because they had an inexperienced line-up against our near fill strength side.

Once they put on some of their regulars (and we kept mostly the same side), they pumped us.

But it's only a trial, and we suffered no injuries.

NZ Warriors looking good and dominating possession 65% to 35%.

Some questionable positional changes by Griffin that are simply an experiment though I don't think in our last trial game we should be mucking around all too much there.

Broncos lack structure in both attack and defense. Going to be a long season, they just don't have the weapons, the flare has all been coached out of them. You can have a completion rate of 100% if you never pass the ball or try to score.

Fair points made.

Griffin is a stubborn old fool in my opinion and I was campaigning for Kevin Walters' return to the club as Head Coach. Walters has served a long apprenticeship and would be a breathe of fresh air our club needs. That aside, our season hinges on the halves and more importantly Ben Hunt who struggled in that first half.

Copley - there is nothing wrong in looking to pass that ball to your left as opposed the hero play. *sigh*
