Put it this way, if hunt plays for souths last year souths still shit the comp in

If Reynolds played for Brisbane do the do any better? I'd say they finish about 12th.
If our halves combo is Hunt and Keary then we lose the strength of our kicking game. No guaranteed GF win because we are a different team entirely

Not to mention Hunt has been a total plod up until last year. Let's see if he carries it forward or it's just another flash in the pan

Also if Reynolds is coached by somebody other than Madge then I would argue he is a totally different player. He played closer to someone like Sandow when he was in NYC before Madge came over

having a running game in the 9's doesn't take a whole lot of courage, you're not going to get belted into oblivion and the blokes you're running at aren't going to be a whole lot bigger than you

on the topic of Hodges and Walker, Walker was all at sea in the 4N, Hodges is a walk up starter for every rep team he makes himself available for, I don't know what you can possibly say to dispute that

Hodges is really good. And way better at rep level at this point in their careers. In fact I would say Hodges often out performs GI at rep level.

That said, the same is not true of club games, Walker embarrassed his opposite in every game last year. Including Hodges.

To be fair until last year hunt was used as a bench hooker while hacks like Wallace and a geriatric Scott prince played in the halves. It was poor coaching, anyone who saw him in the 20s could see he was going to be a star play maker.

he was NYC player of the year in 2008 before being put into the side as a backup hooker, as soon as he got his favored position back he started to show how good he is, that's not a "total plod", he's a quality halfback and anyone who isn't deluded knows it

Hunt is the better player overall ATM. But Reynolds is improving every year and appears to be sky high on confidence. If he keeps on improving his ball playing and running he might be able to surpass Hunt. He's not THAT far behind Hunt in that department now and his kicking game is streaks ahead. But let's face it, neither of them are ever going to be Thurston.

Walker looked out of his depth playing at Intl level and still has a long way to go to be considered equal to Hodges, let alone better than him

This is coming from someone who hate Hodges with a passion too

As someone said above, everyone is entitled to their opinion but surely most league fans, NRL players and coaches would rate Jonathon Thurston as the best player in the game.

I'd still have thurston and smith as 1 & 2 respectivley, inglis 3rd (would have been equal with hayne). As you said it's all opinion based but I agree that most would probably have JT as 1

Walker was missing a touch of his explosive pace at that level - possibly carrying an injury or simply fatigued after the lengthy season. And didn't have that combination with his winger that allowed his flick passes and inside balls to work as they did at club level

I think it will just come down to time and experience with him finding his niche at rep level. A bit like how George Burgess is still learning how to have the same impact at international level.

Comon mate, he got found out for running sideways too much and pushing stupid passes that were not on. Stop making excuses for him and just look at it for what it was, a guy getting picked for rep level way too early

I like they guy as a player and think he has a big future but he still has a long way to go to be considered one of the best players in his position

It's pointless to compare fullbacks to halfbacks and halfbacks to centers and hookers to fullbacks. You could make a valid argument for a few players. I personally think Inglis is the best payer in the game because he brings so much to the table: Size, speed, ball-playing, kicking, footy instincts, goal-line defense. There's really nothing he can't do. His only weakness is his tendency to daydream now and then but he seems to have improved that since going to fullback,, especially last year. You could play Inglis at any position on the field and expect him to do a job. There's not many players you can say that about.

How is that different to what I said? Things that were working for him regularly weren't working at international level. He has a lot to learn about how to make an impact at that level. He pretty much has permission to play an ad lib role at Souths, backing himself. And just by doing that he did outperform every center he opposed in the comp in the regular season

Now h needs to mature his game a bit, and choose when and how to make an impact

By suggesting his lack of "impact" must be due to an injury or fatigue, rather than that level of footy being a bit beyond him at this point regardless of his fitness

He got shown up plenty of times during the regular season mate. Jeez, you make him sound like some sort of footy god. Take the red and green glasses off for a sec

Is he better than Hodges at his peak? No. Is he better than Hodges 2015? yes.

He is not, but you seem to be very harsh on a 19 year old in his debut rep season. Let's not forget how bad Hodges' first rep appearances were

Not harsh at all. Like you said, he is a 19yo with plenty of room and time to improve

You along with a few of your fellow Souths fans are over selling his strengths and under selling his weaknesses though which is all Im responding to
