Not getting off the tackled player quick enough;
&
In front of the ref at the play the ball;

My point is, the obvious penalties will get penalised (or not if there are none, so you say), it's the 50/50 ones that don't get called that could influence a game.

No penalties (to 1 team) in a half of football is weird!
Was there a single offside penalty blown in the match? Roosters were offside everytime there was a wide shot, and I'm sure the Broncos were too. Couldn't see anywhere in the second half the Broncos held down anywhere near as much as the Rooster did and they weren't getting pinged for it.

Was one hell of a game, both teams can take it to another level as well, Roosters can certainly play better and the Broncos certainly can with the likes of Hodges, Kahu, Blair and Boyd to return. Only question left to be answered is who the other top 4 side will be with Rabbitohs, Roosters and Broncos. Roosters are still my pick for the title but we'll give it a good shake.

I don't think beating 1 top 4 side from last year has us as a lock for the top 4, we played our best game in years last night let's not move away from that.

It would be hard to replicate that every week based on what we've shown in the past and for us to be a top 4 side, we need to do that every week.

I think we will keep getting better. Last nights game was brutal, both teams bashed the shit out of each other, there is only one other side capable of maintaining that level of physicality and speed in a game for that long, and it's Souths. I don't think the Broncos are at the same level as the Roosters and Souths, but I think we are the top of the pile of the chasing pack easily.

Mate, read my post again.

Not complaining about penalties against us. I accept we are ill-disciplined. Always have. Doesn't mean I can't be curious how we can be awarded 0 penalties in 40 minutes of football.

you may be too young to remember but there was a semi final in 2002 between these same clubs.
the broncos received 1 penalty all game in the 78th minute.
that was truly amazing

I do remember that and we have literally paid the price for 13 years since. Last night was the 2nd time this year we haven't received a 2nd half penalty and we received 1 penalty in the 2nd half in another game. Last year there were multiple occasions where no penalty was awarded to us in the 2nd half.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Roosters give away less penalties they might end up getting some. It's such a bad mentality that NRL refs have but that's what I see.

Quite honestly, that was the sweetest Broncos victory since Lockyer's last game.

The Roosters are a quality side and while they weren't at the top of their game, the Broncos did a good job of keeping them honest and were rewarded for their patience.

For the hindsight heroes, I must admit from the last 5 minutes on, I thought the Chooks had it over the Broncos and would finish on top. Brisbane have been in this position before and have struggled to go on with it. In fact, Ben Hunt's performance mirrored that of the 2008 Toyota Cup GF where he couldn't kick to save himself. Thankfully, he was able to get the show and go working and pressed the issue.

Not sure what the go is with Maloney, surely he would have done his homework on Hunt after last year's performance? I know the Roosters ended up winning, but Hunt scored some very soft tries that evening as well.

Reading through the thread, I wonder how long it will cotton on that Copley is actually a really handy centre? Can't play wing but in the centres he's very well-rounded and is more than capable of producing big plays.

I thought the referees were fine and have got to applaud them for not penalising the Roosters in the first set of golden point. I'll put my hand up, if I have one bug bear in the game, it's players diving and that was disappointing from Milford. I've seen less penalised but I'm glad the referees used some common sense and I agree with what Robinson had to say about that.

If they want to get rid of the stoppages, the best place to start would be removing the video referee's power during that time.

To be honest, I think if you come out of the tackle like Milford did, you should have to come off for a concussion test. Not singling him out, but saw similar comments leveled against Bird and I thought they were fair then.

Honestly I feel like i'm one of the only ones who really rates him there. Early on his career I remember he kept having to play wing, which admittedly he wasn't good at, but as soon as he began moving into the centres he looked comfortable, and runs the ball very hard and looks much more at home.

You dont get awarded penalties just because. I've just watched the replay, taking particular notice of lack of second half penalties for the roosters because of your comments. Broncos were very disciplined. There were no incidents in that second half where Roosters deserved a penalty but didnt get it. Zip. None. Never did the commentators say that the roosters deserved a penalty somewhere. Watch it again, and tell me where Im wrong. Name an incident.

I haven't had a chance to fully dissect the match but from a brief glance, there could've been a ruck infringement penalty blown in the 55th minute against a Broncos player. Roosters on the attack. Broncos player too slow and even gives a push to the Roosters player as he plays the ball.

Never did the commentators say that the roosters deserved a penalty somewhere.

This statement doesn't deserve much value to it. Commentators hardly call 50/50 ruck penalties before the Referees call them.

are you going to sit here and tell me 1 penalty would of completely changed the result, I have seen optimism but this is a farce

Yeah, when has one penalty ever changed the result of a game? *coughdogsrabbits*. Just playing devils advocate. Refs were good last night.

you're really reaching with that penalty call.
the chooks got away with a lot in the ruck the whole game.
I think the refs have finally figured out have to handle the chooks and their strategic penalties.

TBH it wouldn't be to hard to be picky and find atleast 5 ruck penalties to every Broncos 1. At the end of the day I'm glad everything wasn't penalised that could have been. It kept the game fast. We would never have had a decent game with a rediculous penalty count. People complain when the refs penalize to much and complain when their team doesn't get a heap of penalties go their way. Dammed if they do dammed if they don't.

this is spot on.
the chooks dare the refs to keep blowing the whistle knowing full well the refs want the game to be free flowing.
not penalising their opponent seems to be a tactic to encourage the chooks to change the plan of giving away penalties on purpose.
I'm sick of this gameplan. you can predict when they are going to do it and see them getting away with more and more in the ruck as the game progresses.

Yeah you guys are right. Penalty count should have been 75-0 in favour of Brisbane, refs were clearly on our side.
