What happened to the knignts cap ?

Teams have been offering our players massive overs, and in the past we've matched those offers. That's all it has really taken. Canberra offers Joe Tapine 500k, 300k of it under the cap. We either match it with 500k under our cap, or we let them go.

In the past, guys like Uate and Mata'utia have exploited this fully. Tariq Sims is in the middle of exploiting it right now.

I can't vouch for the authenticity of the info, but when you've got blokes like Tariq Sims put their hands out for a pay rise, when they spend 1/3rd of the season off the field suspended and 2/3rds of the season being a shit merkin... you see how we got to this point.

The worst part is, we're going to lose Rochow... and that will make our admin panic and give Tariq what he wants so we actually have a team at all next year. And so it goes...

 So sad!
Seems like newcastle need
to hit reboot and start all over again

People forget about this with TPAs. That smaller market sides have to dig more into the cap. That said from what ive seen of tapine i dont think weve paid overs

By the end of his contract it probably won't be overs. Unfortunately, as you just saw, we don't have the luxury of paying him that now and waiting til he earns it. We had a similar call to make on Sione Mata'utia, and we went the other way with it and kept him. While he is the best of his brothers and is still only 19, we are suffering big time paying him $500k+ at the moment. All based on potential. Tapine would have put us in a similar bind, and we just can't keep doing it forever.

It's really a combination of all things, the TPA situation roughs us up hard, and then we gamble, and we gamble poorly... so that bites us too. A smart operator might be able to get us to 6th-12th sort of finishes within a few years. That will be our peak until we can unlock the TPA puzzle.

There are sporting organisations around the world that flatly refuse to bow down to that kind of dealings.

They are the ones that will survive no matter of the results on the table.

You slash, and save money. At the same time, develop your own.Use money to invest in grass roots.

f**king tpa's...

If a club can buy a player for 600k but not have all that come out the salary cap than for the knights to compete they need to offer more but have it all taken out the cap.

Remember how the difference between the top team and the bottom side in tpas is over a million dollars. Well thats a lot of pressure taken off one teams salary cap.,

I dont know why you came waddling in butthurt btw. Perverse didnt slander the sacred broncos. He said the raiders could pay more for tapine because he believes (and he might be right) that the raiders are able to top up his contract.

Now if the nrl just published what the salary and tpa situation for all clubs were we wouldnt be guessing and poor bronco fans wouldn't have to act paranoid when a knights fan doesnt even mention the club.

That's basically what you're seeing with us now, since Brown took the reigns. Just cast a look at the average age of our squad, and the number of rookies we have running around every week.

It's going to be a long process, but I don't believe the road ends at the top of the ladder, even if we get everything right. There is a glass ceiling that we'll hit well before we become really competitive. We pushed up against it with Brian Smith.

It's reasonable that a Broncos fan can't comprehend what we're talking about (although, to me it's basic maths). They've never experienced it first hand, even at their worst.

We tried the grassroots thing. Hopefully newcastle crack down on dickhead behaviour lol

Hahaha, well we have a great track record with that.

In my experience thus far, the "grass roots" thing really just leads you to being a feeder club for the rest of the competition.

They are also the ones that see a mid-table finish as a successful season.

We aren't leaving the bottom 3 until the NRL actually commits to a fair competition.

So, never.

An entire generation only knows the Knights as terrible now - and, somewhat understandably, they hardly support us.

It really does f***ing suck being a Knights supporter.

And the circle starts all over again.

What's the point of developing players when others come in and take them any way? I can see we won't be able to keep all of the Saifiti's/Levi/Mamo/Feeney because we are merely developing for other teams to poach because we aren't on the same level playing field.

It's completely flawed. There isn't even a transfer fee to reward us for developing the players.

But it's ok...the NRL will just take it for granted that 20K will go to games no matter what crap they trot out...
