18th club, whose next?

Imagine being stupid enough to argue the dolphins are worth nothing to nine and foxsports

The second biggest rugby league club on earth in a city which leaves and breathes the sport

Not only does he think the world's second biggest RL club is worth nothing to the broadcasters. He has deluded himself into believing a Perth team is guaranteed to get the 19th licence because a) it is supported by a pawnbroker and b) five sports have a higher profile than the NRL!

We've never had a proactive WA Govt like this before.
If NRL is serious about getting to 20 clubs in next decade we will be in. If they are only looking at 18 its a long shot seeing as Albo seems to have got his way.

What makes you think Perth is guaranteed a spot ahead of Brisbane Tigers and NZ2?

enough for what?

Im hoping an investment of around $155mill from WA govt will see us over the line. Presuming the consortiums business case stacks up.

What makes you think a $155m investment will get a Perth-based club into NRL when there's a richer and more viable bid in Brisbane?

The Queensland Gov has a long history of supporting rugby league. There's a question mark over how much support our game will get from future WA Govs.

If it comes down to the business case then Perth is f**ked!

The Tigers will command more revenue from sponsorship, corporate hospitality, ticketing and membership. It'll also have access to gaming revenue.

We know which bid has support from the broadcasters.

There are no guarantees, especially in RL! But we may have a strong case and stronger than NZ who have no case at the moment.
I dont think it will be Brisbane3 because I dont think Broncos, Dolphins and Titans will allow it. Not that they dont have a strong case in of itself.
But NRL is super conservative historically so nothing would surprise me.

Ok I have the blueprints
Multiple regional area's
The expansionists say we need a Perth-based team to be national and not viewed as a "two state game". If 25 years of the Melbourne Storm hasn't changed the perception that rugby league is a "two state game" then I'd like PR to explain why he thinks the West Coast Pirates will be the solution.
I have the blueprints
On 20 team's
That includes all Australia. Including Hobart Tasmania
Adelaide. Perth
All of Pacifica. Papa New Guinea. NZ

People said Dolphins wouldn't get in because of Broncos and Titans.

How about this for an idea...

NRL announces Perth & NZ 2 as teams 18 and 19 - in either order, or even added at the same time.

For Perth, it's the Pirates bid.
For NZ2, throw it open to bids from NZ cities outside Auckland, choose NZ 2 on best business case.. and maybe have the Bears would be involved with one of those bids.

For team 20, throw it WIDE OPEN to bids from anywhere - Brisbane, Adelaide, NZ 3, you name it. Choose the most compelling business case.

Now, the chances are that Brisbane 3 (especially the Easts Tigers bid) will likely win the race for team 20, so as a contingency arrange regular games in Adelaide & some across NZ to get the buzz going there, with an eye on either relocation or expansion there if/when feasible.
