“The ARLC has allocated 13 per cent of projected distributable revenue to participation and pathways over the next five years, according to the NRL’s Participation and Pathway/RLPA Club Presentation document from September 2022. This figure was confirmed by the QRL’s Ikin. The AFL allocates 10 per cent, although the AFL has a bigger revenue pie.”

But this can't be true. The know all from Perth said funding has been cut.

Mate who cares if we are on the west coast or specifically anywhere, as long as the clubs are viable and are followed, then no reason the comp needs to have specific places like perth, coz if we do go there great, then they'll be the dots on the map whingers that say we have no presence in SA, or that theres not enough NZ teams etc, they'll always be whingers, epl is the best comp in its sport, do you think they care where their teams are based?
I assume EPL doesn't need to worry about playing numbers though. We do. It's about getting more players playing the game. It's why every sport has gone national.

Why would you compare a comp with promotion and relegation, with a comp with fixed licences?

I guess NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL didn't help whatever argument he wanted to make since they limit the number of teams in each city.

We'll know who is a contender by the end of the season.

If the Christchurch bid is fair dinkum then they'll have a reveal a strong financial backer in Las Vegas.

The Perth consortium needs to put forward its business case to have a chance.

The Brisbane Tigers need to play all 12 games out of Lang Park to warrant consideration.
Has there been any talk that the Tigers wouldn’t play all games at Suncorp??

Yep. Probably why Adelaide isn't even being discussed as team 18. You seen to like to put Adelaide into the same basket as Perth for some reason. Possibly just padding out your point?

What was the theme of this thread across the last couple of pages?

That the game can't be seen as an East Coast comp. That would entail going to Adelaide and Perth over going across to the Pacific.

whereas over Covid NZ lost as many juniors as Adelaide has in total, So I see no reason the game can't go to those areas over Australian places - provided the business case stacks up of course

They haven't done themselves any favours by doing so (going national)... afl is the only other sport that is up there with us in terms of popularity and they are maxed out for expansion potential they wont be able to branch out overseas, if anything "going national" has probably stunted them, they could have easily not had suns and gws and plonked another WA and SA team instead, as for the other codes/sports are all suffering and are barely getting by in comparison "going national" probably is only keeping them relevant, and as for playing numbers tapping into areas where we already play will only strengthen that, that suggests we might never be present in Adelaide

Not all sports bar AFL are struggling. Cricket is up there for popularity , basketball growing faster than most sports.
You can't just assume going national is bad fit a sport because of soccer and union.

I agree, you don't go somewhere just because it's in Australia. You also don't go somewhere just because the govt want you to.

The "Pacific" doesn't have any bid, doesn't have any sustainability, no geniune home base and is worth nothing in terms of TV and corporates.

PNG is all of the above, with some allusion of temporary govt assistance

And a Perth team running 12th would be different?

That is the thing with going to these areas they are a risk.

The alternative is:

1 - don't expand
2 - bring in more QLD/NSW Teams.

3 - expand to new areas - If you are for option 3 then ALL the areas have risks... You seem to not realise this

As for no Pacific bids, As late as June 2021 Andrew Chalmers was discussing a NZ South Island bid.

PNG would be part of the Pacific push.

Fiji is running a junior side in NSWRL, Were mentioned as part of a Pasikifa bid.

No shortage of options
