OK that makes sense too, esp the league club funding. So why are some WA supporters against the idea? It all seems to line up... WA gets a team that taps into existing infrastructure / funding which will no doubt help with being successful sooner. If there's a thought it wont truly be a WA team, surely residents will gravitate over time, especially if they're winning.

That is the thing. In 15 years time people will forget it was linked to Sydney

TBH you aren't Targetting the kids over here. You want the WA kids getting behind the team, You want the old dinosaurs over now on boards who can pump money in to get behind it.

As they die out those kids now become the finance backers
Then the problem is the same as it is now, the North Shore doesn’t get engaged with by a NRL team on a regular basis. Why is a kid growing up now on the North Shore who doesn’t have family ties to the Bears going to start caring about a WA team?

As the old dinosaurs die off, the North Shore remains having the same problems; poor engagement and a team that’s not around like neighbouring teams are. The kids who play RL will probably be better engaged than they are now, but the North Shore kids who don’t play it, but still take an interest in following and watching RL- why would they care?

I noticed that VLandys days that the bears can't be a stand alone club but didn't say that Perth couldn't be a stand alone club.
The exciting thing is it looks like Perth is locked in for club 19 before 2030.
Now if Cumins consortium and Bears can find an amicable arrangement is secondary.
if they cant then in all likelihood Cumins consortium will get the club ownership and we will get a new brand in the NRL.
Either way it looks like our long wait for another club is nearly over.

Who do those kids support now?

Bears are bringing their name, pathways and some cash with them

Eventually they likely have no link with Sydney

Why wait 15 years? Just don't link it to Sydney. They're running the risk of getting another Wests tigers.

Because they need the Lower grades, Too much to run them until the tier under NRL player numbers, pathways build up.

That takes time, Naming the side Perth Bears is not linking to Sydney.

Running the u17's out of Sydney. Allows them to target the best 15/16 year olds. Have them finish school with their friends before moving over.

I'd imagine similar would be done with WA locals. The aim would be get those numbers high enough to by pass the Sydney side

yeh I can see that would be the model first grade and NSw cup team out of perth, then jnr age groups run in NS and perth. NS jnrs to be paid for by NSLC, Perth jnrs to be paid for by Perth Bears.

Naming the side Perth Bears isnt linking it to sydney? Hows that work?

A mix - Roosters, Manly, Souths, no one.

It would be a far better result for the North Shore region if one of Sydney’s NRL teams had control of the area. They’re able to actively engage the area on a regular basis.

There’s going to be little reason for a North Shore kid with no ties to the Bears to start supporting a WA Bears team. Whereas if the North Shore was given over to one of the existing Sydney teams it’s an easier sell if they can see the team regularly and have them present in their area. It would feel more natural and more like theirs, instead of having people tell them they should be supporting a WA team they have no ties to.

If it draws more fans through the gate and better TV ratings than games played at PRS then questions will be asked about the club's viability in Perth.
A north Sydney stand alone club would average similar to perth

a central coast based bears side more than perth

and I believe there are enough sponsors for a central coast bears side

if won’t be allowed by the other nrl clubs though

the bears have accepted their future isn’t in Sydney

The Bears aren't getting in a Sydney team though. It doesn't have to be sold to Sydney people.

It is a junior program to put the NSW Kids in. It will help on TV because some people will recognise the name and colours. As a result would get old fans who are on boards sponsoring RL who wouldn't normally do so

As opposed to say Titans playing Pirates or some other new name that has no link anywhere. Particularly playing away at an hour where people can't watch locally live

North Sydney Oval holds 10,000 people and has little to no corporate facilities, IF there are a game to be in Sydney it would be there.

So whether the kids of the North Shore get on board isn't an issue.

Will Western Australians accept a Sydney club?

Cumins reckons they won't.

If Cumins is right then Perth Bears is a risky proposition.

Is there any confirmation Perth is the 19th team, or is Perth Rat jumping to conclusions?

A couple of years ago he was adamant Perth would get the 18th licence.
