Another game, another loss. So after 5 games they are dead last on the ladder with 0 wins. They've scored 38 points and conceded 288.

In good news, the last time they played Brooklyn Kings they lost 94-0, so 28-12 is an improvement.

I think Gus said 40 or 60% of tv revenue comes from Origin and finals series. He apparently got that info from former Nine CEO Dave Gyngell.

At the end of the day, the NRL has to perform a balancing act of taking care of player welfare, look after broadcasters and for the integrity of the comp to be maintained.

Additionally, the women's game is growing at a very good rate. And who is to say that 20 teams isn't the end game. You could expand to 22, by including Adelaide.

One thing is for certain, the code shouldn't be sitting still in the future.

I think the NRLW should run into October like AFLW does.

It'd be good to finish NRL and Sl seasons end of Sept and have 6-8 weeks for internationals end of every year. You could also then have the NRLW final rounds and finals in that same period.

‘ PNG has a positive impact on Cairns’: Prime Minister doesn’t rule out Cairns NRL base for PNG side


Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese has not ruled out Cairns as a potential NRL base for a PNG side.
The NRL, along with the Australian and Papua New Guinea governments, are working out how PNG would become the 18th licence.
Albanese said the talks were still ongoing among the three parties.
“We’re working with PNG as well as working with the NRL,” Mr Albanese said.
“There is no doubt that if PNG is successful in putting a team in the NRL, that will be good news for Papua New Guinea for its economic development.

The Northern Pride will pay homage to the indigenous people and culture of Cairns when they wear specially designed indigenous jerseys in their Intrust Super Cup Queensland Rugby League Indigenous Round match against the Central Queensland Capras, held at Barlow Park on Saturday. Mr Albanese said the relationship between PNG and Cairns was very strong, “and therefore a strong PNG has a positive impact on Cairns and Far North Queensland”.
“We are in negotiations about a range of issues when it comes to PNG entering a team into the National Rugby League, we will continue those discussions,” he said.
Earlier suggestions of basing the PNG NRL team in Cairns were smacked down by NRL boss Peter V’landys in May this year.
“The team will definitely be based full-time in Papua New Guinea,” Mr V’landys said.
“If you want it to work, you don’t base it in Australia.”
Mr V’Landys queried how the people of PNG would engage with their team if it was based in Cairns.
“You have to have the team full-time in PNG and we’re also not going to affect the ecosystem in North Queensland where the Cowboys have been so successful and that’s their heartland,” Mr V’landys said.
Mr Albanese said there would be economic benefits for PNG stemming from having a team in the NRL.
“This isn’t just about 13 players and four on then bench, running on the field for PNG, this is about the economic development for Papua New Guinea,” Mr Albanese said.
“It’s about increasing the economic activity that occurs there, it is about a team that will be based in Port Moresby.
“But a team that will go through junior rugby league, economic development, creating those pathways.
“We know that rugby league can be very important as other sports, particularly team sports as well in lifting up communities and we know for PNG we know that it is very important indeed.”

4 weeks of finals
3 weeks of pre-season
3 weeks of origin
10 weeks forced holidays
= 48 weeks accounted for

To hit the October long weekend Grand Final, and maintain Origin mid-season, Round 1 would be first weekend of February at the latest.

Currently it's 204 games for 27 rounds 3 byes, add another 3 clubs, it gets to 240 games for a 24 rounds, no byes, each club gets 12 home games, no byes mean that timeline shortens, Ivan is right lesser games could help the eyeballs matter, but it doesn't solve the content issue, they just need to manage a happy medium, like conferences could solve that problem very easily
Play everyone, then twice within your pool (4 pools of 5 teams) basically adds 4 derbies = 23 rounds

Haven't certain posters been posting for the last week that the deal is all done and signed off by the govt? That they've already agreed full allocations? And now Albo is saying that it's all still in discussions.

So now Ben Fordham has claimed the deal is all done and finalised twice in the last 2 months. No doubt when he says it again in a month, certain posters will come rushing in claiming they have been proven right and predicted this moment 2 years ago.

Roosters junior clubs have less than 50 teams. That’s got to tell you something. Their teams in under 9s and above play in the Balmain comp. I know it’s a congested area but they should be able to do better than that.

They don't care, they know they have the money power and influence to buy any player they want, who is willing to sell out their club, it's why they have the roster they have, it's why they ate the team they are.... I've said it from day dot, they could be relocated on the moon and it wouldn't affect their chances or bottoming, total scum of a club, and does nothing in return for RLs growth
