the titans basically swapped Latu and Cartwright for Fifita.
I'll take one bull stud over two lame ducks everyday of the week

FOr the titans its probably worth overspending for a talent like Fifita. They have been a graveyeard for NRL careers for years now and all of sudden they half a bit of legitimacy in the player market with Fifita and Tino signing on. The timing of the broncos going full genius makes it even more worth it.

The obvious is they have only played one regular season game with the Titans. Its a bit early for the knives to be out. But the Titans can't afford to get slow out of the blocks again this year. The argument from critics is their late run last season came on the back of no pressure and no expectations at the end of the season with the position they were on the ladder.

Garth Brennan's fabulous work with the recruitment he did at the Titans. If they just had given him more time I think he was in the midst of building something (Cartwright, Latu, Peachey, Shannon Boyd etc)......

Forget forwards there's f**kall players worth a mil a year in any position. So many overpaid players in the League. Now the gap between good and bad sides is becoming clearer with the new rules hopefully there's a big correction in the player market once some deals end and we can get more balanced squads, depth of talent and an improved comp.

My thinking is Payten has seen the cap at cowboys and thought I need to rid of a player. Looking at the new rules Lolo is great for short stints but not at that monetary rate. So he is wanting to push him out no I am not mad as he is a great player but I all honestly he not worth that money now. And he can get a club to pay at least 80% of his current worth. Not the usual 20-30% thus swing the cows money to buy a few bulls. I know you are going to think I have been in Pablo Escobars garbage but that is what I think.

I don't think you're that far off the mark at all. Payten's words towards Taumalolo were quite harsh....not the sort of words you'd have for a guy you treasure.

I see most LU members eyes are painted on if they believe Jase playing 50 mins is some massive reduction in his playing time from the last few seasons.

I didn't see it that way, if he anything he was openly stating he was protecting Jase's long term health

He's now into the 4th year of his 10 year deal and the Cowboys have yet to get out of the bottom 4 in that time.

And now they are thinking we have to limit how we use him because he is hear for 7 more years and we have to get value from him over the entire contract, where as if they signed him for 3 years, they wouldn't have been thinking about 7 years down the track, they would have used him as they always have.

Ridiculous situation to have a player that can play 60-80 minutes a game, churn out phenomenal numbers, be a game changing player but no, we must sit him down so we get some use out of him in 6 years still.

Big JT is worth it, I think Payton is barking up the wrong tree changing his minutes - if anything, he should be adding a certain type of player into their pack to cover some of JTs donkey work in defence - a Dallas Johnson type player.
What I do think is that JT needs another foil in their pack - he was awesome taking hit up 2 & 4, sandwiching a big drive by Matt Scott. JT is dynamite on the back of another bid run and quickish play the ball - unfortunately for the Cowboys, the rest of their pack is dog shit

I doubt JT will continue to play only 50min per game, first 30 and last 30min is best imo.

When the salary rises again next season and the following seasons, his contract will look great value.
Cows just have to wait a bit until Morgan's leg fly's off attempting to kick the ball and they can medically retire him. Some big money duds like Granville, O'Neil and Hampton will leave at the end of this season then Payten can start building around JT.

Its a different scale, but he did the same thing at the warriors. Real early on in the piece he called out our highest paid (and probably laziest) player in Adam Blair publicly.

Payten held nothing back when he admitted any other player would've been left out of the squad if they had performed the way the 34-year-old did.

"He wasn't great, missed a lot of tackles, didn't work hard enough to get onside a lot of the time," Payten said.

"That's just not acceptable.
"Given his experience we keep him in the side. Anyone else I reckon they would have missed out completely.

"I think that sends a message to the rest of the team."

We got pumped by 36 against the sharks which is when he called out Blair, and after that game played the red hot chooks and fought and scrapped and went down by 8 points. And for the remaining 10 games we won 5 and our biggest loss was only 12 points, compared to the beatings we copped pre the blow up.

The man can coach and I reckon he knows what he is doing here.
