We will lose this test.

But at the end of the day it's a flat wicket. We've got two of our best out there with more to come.

We should make the Indian attack work for it. Our bowlers got spent but we get the extra day to recover. No reason we can't force India to so the same.

...and as I am about to hit post reply Khawaja goes cheaply.

What change though? The cupboard is bare

How do we know unless we try? There's talent there. We've got our three most senior players at around 25 innings without a hundred. How can you say what will and won't happen giving a bloke a shot?

Smith and Labs themselves were basically just audibles when first selected...

Beyond that, there needs to be serious change into he management of the game and coaching of the team. That's much less likely but we can dream

Take McSweeney as an example.

Because we let that annoying bloke in the commentary box play well beyond his use-by date, we let the opportunity slip to blood some younger players against lesser opponents... instead we bring them in against India.

Madness.

Madness.

And in the wrong spot.

And we hadn't fostered accountability in the existing players or upwards momentum in the future players

Finch, like all ex players is going to defend a current player. Pointless asking them if a player should be dropped, all they ever say is 'form is temporary, class is permanent '.

It's a long Summer with 5 tests.

I doubt we see any changes for the second test. But if we lose that one there will be blood.

On McSweeney. He has the experience batting at Adelaide and that's the location of the second test. So he will absolutely get a shot there.

Smith looks a bit more relaxed so far which is a positive.

Has never scored a 4th innings century. See off Bumrah and treat this like training. We need runs from him urgently.

Although looking extremely unlikely at the moment, it would be a massive achievement if the remainder of the batting lineup can force this test into day 5.

Khawaja gone cheaply, well that's now 25 innings he's gone without a test century. Unless he can somehow pull a rabbit out of the hat with his batting performances, there's absolutely no way he will be in the Test XI after this Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, let alone in 12 months time when the Ashes series commences. Compared to Labuschagne, Khawaja doesn't have age on his side (nearly 40) and is slow and sluggish moving around.

If the Aussies end up losing the series so badly to the point where it puts us out of qualification for the World Test Championship Final, after the SCG test is the time for the selectors to clean out the closet and start planning for the future.

A bit off topic (given it's a different format), say for example in the ODIs, with the next World Cup in 2027, it makes no sense playing 35yr olds such as Stoinis if the selectors genuinely don't believe he will be there in 3 years time. Letting him play for a couple of years before blooding a debutant to replace him within 12 months of the World Cup is a complete waste of time.

We might have to hang on to him tbh.

Next year we have just the 2 tests before the Ashes correct? I'm sceptical those performances in February will count towards selection for the home Summer. And he is surely due for a good knock even if we don't play a test in Brisbane.

His fielding has always been an issue. I'd park him on the boundary tbh. Slippers>inside circle>boundary rider.

Josh Inglis seems like the next batsman in the squad yet he isn't playing the Sheffield shield this week with his feet up carrying the drinks.

After playing white ball cricket for 3 weeks.

So do we bring him in for Adelaide with no red ball preparation.

Just another mind boggling decision why wasn't he sent to Adelaide to play in the D/N Shield as the reserve backup bat to prepare possibly for the next test.

And why isn't there 3 more shield games next weekend for some of these blokes to go back and play.

The next shield round starts on Day 1 of the Adelaide test match.

Sometimes i wonder if the clowns at CA could even organise a meat raffle at the local pub.
