Stupid to declare. We're not going to win this test. That top 6 will have to collapse in an epic way and that is a 1 in a 1000 chance. Chasing 1 in a 1000 chances is foolish.

There is far more to be gained from batting and batting and batting. Breaking them mentally, saving our bowlers bodies etc. How would you people feel if Pattinson does his back just for them finish the day at 4/200 or whatever.

If we make them field all day today as well there will be genuine mental scars for them to deal with for the rest of the series.

If we had a realistic chance to win I'd be all for the aggressive declaration. But we don't, so bury them under a mountain of runs.

But... didn't you also say Ed Cowan was sh*t and wouldn't make any runs? There's no harm in going hard at them, showing a bit of aggressive intent and getting some confidence back for our bowlers heading into Adelaide. Try and get around 150 in front and let the quicks have a go at getting it right first up-which they didn't really do in the first dig

Not to mention batting all day wont mentally scar the Saffa's at all, if anything it will show them Australia isn't confident enough to believe they can bowl them out. I would say it would massively inflate the batsmen's confidence.

Its like taking the penalty instead of going for the try, after 3 repeat sets.

What planet are you on BM?

The correct way to go is to absolutely unleash in the morning. At worst they rip through our tail and we are probably 100 in front. At best we can get to close to 200 in front by lunch. South Africa would then be playing for a draw as they cannot win and our bowlers can have a red hot go at them. If they finish 2/250 then so be it, at least they gave it a go and they can attribute it to a flat deck.

why do you want to spare our bowlers goldenrod?

surely it's an opportunity for them to step up and make their mark on the game.

For some unknown reason BM is against Australia trying to win the test. He sees the failure to win as a weakness when the fact that we are in a position to try to win is a huge positive given a whole day has been lost to rain and the 1st innings total from SA.

I think we need at least 150 to go for the win, SA could just come out swatting and get 100 quickly.
