South Africa 5/58 in the last session, still needing another 160 runs.

Haven't watched much of the test so far, but is this Mohali pitch the rank turner that Ravi Shastri so desperately wanted, hence why the Indian spinners bowled 54 of the 68 overs in South Africa's 1st innings? I really find it hard to believe the Saffas batting lineup have capitulated this badly to an average bowling attack.

They really have played some poor shot selections, then again the deck is a terrible one, many deliveries are keeping low, then you have the rank turners

Still 6/85, chasing only 218

anything could still happen This Van Zyl bloke going well 25no

Funny in those articles I posted about, Ravi Shastri et al were bitching about how the groundsmen should produce pitches to suit their bowlers after they were rissoled in Mumbai...

That all sounds well until you also try and get into other countries' cricket associations and dictate what pitches they should be dishing up for your batsmen, like what CLEARLY happened last summer when after losing 4-0 in 2011/12 on pitches that offered bowlers something to work with, you compare the MCG and SCG pitches from last year to the test series from 2011/12.

Is this pitch better than or worse than the one at Chennai in 2013, which looked more like Roland Garros? It's one thing to produce wickets favourable to your country's bowlers (which pretty much all countries do), but who could forget what the Chennai groundsman did when he took that to another level with his 'selective watering' on the pitch:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-australia-2013/content/story/622766.html

And I laugh at those quote from the groundsman:

Parthasarathy had used the method of selective watering back in 1998 when Australia lost to India by 179 runs. Warne, who frequently bowled round-the-wicket line during that series, struggled to make an impact as Sachin Tendulkar took the attack to him.

"I kept the square patches outside the leg stump, on either side of the wicket, really hard. It was difficult to get turn from that part as there would be no rough there."

"After that game, Warne came to me and asked why he wasn't getting the turn and others were. I told him it was because of his dodgy shoulder, that was to be operated later in the series."

Inside three days, spinners took 35 of the 40 wickets to fall....disgraceful wicket. Imagine if that had gone to day five, by some miracle? What the heck would the pitch be like by then?

That being said, the ball Mishra bowled to AB De Villiers was a beauty. Reminiscent of the one Warne bowled Laxman with in 2004.

Terrible pitch it sounds like it was.

Gee Warnie blows a lot of smoke up Mishra's arse, wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that he has been coaching him.

I remember him saying something similar about Smudger when he was coaching him as well

You would imagine the BCCI are delighted India won, but not too happy the test didn't go to day 6..

Interesting to see the makeup of the 2nd test deck
