Isn't that largely due to his figures getting worse the longer a series goes and Sydney is always at the end?

I think there is merit in resting him often.
think this - also think if there are back to back tests should rotate at least 1 of the bowlers

Its fun seeing so much change for once.

Haze out would have to see Boland/Starc on tour and with the new ball.

Cummins is still a maybe no?

Babies have their own timeline.

He is a maybe yes but the rumour got released a bit early so we know its in the plans at least.

I think Boland will play both tests. And potentially Starc/Cummins one each. The latter two will feature in the champions trophy so they will be managed. Likewise Hazelwood.

22-27 January 1970, South Africa vs Australia (1st test) at Cape Town.

Last test series for the Saffers before they were banished from international cricket for a couple of decades

Ahh yes, I believe got smashed after coming straight from a successful tour of India.

And probably the last time Australia weren't at home during the summer, leading to some disagreements with players and the board.

Perfect timing too (well we probably could have done something last summer)

Give others opportunity (also WI tour) with some big retirements happening within 12 months or so id say

Potentially 5-6 spots available whoever wants to put their hand up next 24 months
Khawaja, Smith, Lyon Carey, Hazlewood, Starc , maybe Marnus if out of form, all could be gone before we head to India in 2027 for the return bout 5 tests

The problem for us finding replacements is that the cupboard is a bit bare at the moment and we play more big wank cricket than shield cricket, so there really is not much opportunity to prepare these potential replacements, for 4 or 5 day cricket.

We'll end up with a top 6 batting line up playing ramp shots to get off the mark.

Got a round of Shield games to potentially see who we can take on the WI tour

Really is up to individuals to start knocking in Shield and be consistent over the next 12-24 months when retirements start dropping. Webster is a great example,, been brilliant in Shield last 2-3 years

I think there's enough there, apart from maybe opener. But we need to give blokes the chance and stick with it. I sound like a broken record but there's very little value in the Shield as a competition or a developing ground at the moment.

Webster has shown there is talent there. Throwing McSweeney away would be a mistake too. Patterson has had a Khawaja esque renaissance and he's only 30 from memory. Kony has the talent. Young guys like Campbell Kellaway and Ollie Davies have plenty too. Well be ok, but we might need to accept a little bit of development time

We haven't got a leggie worth a pinch of Bruce McGain's shit though. So it's two offies. The only real variation is Kuhnemann purely because he bowls left arm offies instead, but Murphy is a much better bowler so IMO you pick the two best.
Ignorant question, why not Zampa?

Well for me only, he's 33, had a FC average of 47 and isn't playing Shield for NSW after the incident earlier this season...plus I just think he bowls the wrong style for Test cricket now. More sliders and wrong uns than leg breaks and pretty flat and fast. He's become a white ball specialist and he bowls like it tbh. I'd rather punt on Tanveer Sangha, although he's also not as good as Murphy

I think the best thing for some of our potential 4/5 days younger talents is to play county cricket but they don't seem to do that as much nowadays.

I wonder if there are Visa issues for some too? Fergus O'Neill signed for Notts but was only eligible for a short term Visa so he's only getting 4 games.

Right, hadn’t checked his record just seen how effective he’s been with a white ball. Didn’t realise he was that old

Yeah as above he's a bell end as well tbh. The last few years and this cringe stuff with Stoinis he's very much become a brand cricketer. He cares more about his brand and his Insta and his image than cricket IMO, and we just got rid of Little Davey and Candace...

That's another reason I like the guys like McSweeney and Webster, who are just cricketers.

Word is McSweeny, Connelly, Murphy, Kuhnermann are on the tour.

No room for Mitch Marsh whose test career has basically finished.

Glenn Maxwell won't wear the baggy green again.

Haze & Cummins wont travel.

Suspect Starc, Boland, Jhye & Abbott will be the 4 quicks
