The commentators just called the NZ batsmen 'very disciplined'. LOL

Taylor gone.

to be fair, the Sri Lankans are bowling pretty well. But we are awful.

74 run partnership (and counting) getting our innings back on track. McCullum (57) and Flynn (36) batting very well.

114/3

NZ skittled for 221. Resilient innings from McCullum and Flynn, and a little fight from the tail- but all in all another pathetic performance thus far from NZ in a test.

Sri Lanka are 9/1 at the end of the day 1

At 50/5 itv was looking pretty bad for Srilanka. A 150 run partnership and now they've eclipsed our target with only 5 wickets down. If we get some runs in the second innings and the rain holds off this will be a bloody good test.

A rash shot for McCullum spoils what was otherwise a great day for us. Fantastic bowling by Southee.

We seriously need 1 of the top 5 to put on a big score tomorrow. If we can build a good lead and then put Sri Lanka in with an hour or so to play, we could be a chance here.

Need to set them an absolute minimum of 250. Anything less, and it's curtains!
280 would be even better.

Southee & Boult were outstanding on Day 2. Beautiful swing bowling. Some of the best in the world in the last 15 years!

Another absolutely clueless Test performance from New Zealand. Well done boys.

Guptill is seriously overrated as a test match opener. Dude has nothing in the test game. Kane Williamson is miles off being a good test cricketer. Once in a while flash in the pan player. Franklin at 6 is... mind blowingly dumb. Been there, done that, proven over and over he's not up to it as a batting all rounder.

The problem is, what do you do? The only genuine test cricketer you have in the Plunkett Shield is Ryder and he still won't make himself available. Franklin is a stopgap at 6 but where else do you go?

Williamson is class and I think the only think to do is keep on keeping on with him. He'll get there eventually.

As for Guptill... Rutherford? Worker? But are these guys really any better?

Hamish Rutherford is improving quickly which is good... Carl Cacopha seems to be in a rich vein of form too.
