Don’t think Phillips will ever keep again, he should move to 6 at the least. There are good keepers around, but seems like the selectors are focussed on what Blundell did a few years ago…

If Southee learnt just to knock a few around and not have every scoring be a 6 he could have been a lot better batsman.

His hand-eye is as good as anyone in the lower order he could have been a very decent number 8 if he applied himself a bit better.

i like Stockley, pretty clear at the least that Young and a new keeper should be in the XI

with all due respect to Stevenson and Frankie McKay it’s ludicrous that he was sacrificed in the name of diversity and political correctness, sane is true I think if Gower in the UK, he’s one of the best imo

You don't hit 94 sixes in test cricket without some ability.

So there was talent there his batting average is 15.

Probably should have been 20+

With Latham having to be in the team as he's captain I'd be tempted to go the Kurt Gidley route. Make him keeper and bat him at 8 or 9 so Young can play.

But but he’s our greatest opener ever

so disrespectful when they suggest that…. He’s not in the same league as Turner and Dempster, nor Wright or Richardson against quality attacks

Southee has always had great hand eye but doesn't like the short ball or the ball coming on at pace. Means he was always limited in terms of digging in rather than just slogging. Which is fine but he should have been a 10 for most of his career.

Anyway, normal transmission has resumed with this team. There or thereabouts but constantly shooting ourselves in the foot. Phillips is so clearly a 6 but they're too stubborn to change anything up. Similar to Southee, we have another captain who's barely good enough to make the team on playing ability alone. And obviously the fielding was a disgrace.

Need some new blood and fresh ideas so of course they'll probably just give Stead another extension.
