The Auckland Warriors went bankrupt and the licence and a few other things from the old club was bought by Eric Watson pretty cheaply. $1 I think but could be wrong. A new entity needed to be created and the new team was called the NZ Warriors. Watson recently sold the club and one of the two buyers was the Carlaw Park Trust which is an arm of the Auckland RL. There’s talk of a change of name back to Auckland and reverting to former home colours for home games

Yes, it really is f**king dumb to have a team using it's nations name, when all the other teams have a city or part of a city or area of a nation as their names, it makes the NRL look dumb too for allowing this dumb shit.
The Warriors must change their name back to Auckland again asap and their first color scheme was better too, much more interesting than what they have now, the only team that's colour scheme is more boring is Manly's one.

Not at all, nrl has shown zero inclination to ever have another nz club so why not have the single club that exists represent and be a club RL fans across the whole country and ex pats in Oz can follow? It’s only dumb because the nrl doesn’t have any interest in growing the game in NZ.

Yes, ths hap in America 50 yers ago, but instead of colasing into one comp they stay seperte and only unite in Super Bowl, incredible strong country.

if you are talking NFL then they are not totally separate as they do play inter conference games throughout the regular season but what i do find very interesting is the baseball system where the different leagues actually play with some different rules. that is just so bizarre to me.

Top 8 from each conference go into a straight 16 team knockout playoff. So 1st from conference “A” plays 8th from conference “B” and 2nd from conference “A” plays 7th from conference “B” and so on.

Also rotate the grandfinal each year. From suncorp, Perth, Melbourne, Eden Park, Sydney and Adelaide. Minimum stadium capacity of 50,000.
