20-20 Cricket.

Close Parra Panther. The Max Zone was straight behind the bowler between long on and long off, you couldn't be caught in there, and runs were doubled so you could hit 12s straight down the ground.

I just got back from the Twenty20 match between NSW and Qld at North Sydney Oval. The ground was packed. They said the crowd was 10,500 but i think it would have been more. I couldn't see any spare seats anywhere and it was 5 or 10 rows deep of people standing around the fence.

It was a good match. I enjoyed it.

Max Cricket, I remember they showed that one day on Fox in 1998 I think.

It was played at Ericsson Stadium, I think New Zealand was playing England. One particular memory of it was the umpires making those strange signals, like Billy Bowden type ones. Funny to watch.

I have to agree with some people on 20/20, its mainly a game for batsmen, and leaves the bowlers out. But I reckon bowlers will learn a bit more out of this. Batsmen will try and get runs off every ball, and might fail occassions, a dot ball or a wicket.

I went today.

Call me a purist, but I hated it. No skill involved whatsoever. It was 'shut your eyes and swing' cricket.

Only redeeming quality was the crowds atmosphere. As Girvie said, the official crowd was 10,500, but NSO's official capacity is 20,000 and I think it was at capacity today.

20-20 is a waste of time that doesn't test the true abilities of players. It isn't perceived as a true game of cricket by the majority of public, and, IMO, it cheapens the game of cricket in general.

Surely there must be a way that it can complement the ODI and Tests.

Who could have seen back in 1971 the impact that one day cricket would have on the sport? Four years later they held the first ODI World Cup. Whilst it wouldn't replace or supersede the current World Cup, I can see in the future there being 20/20 international tournaments, involving all test nations but with no actual test players playing.

Looking forward to tomorrow night's game.

Qld did make their 167 in 17.3 overs which is quicker than NSW but of course they lost too many wickets.

Why is everyone saying it is bad for bowlers?
We play it here for some fun during the pre-season.
It is a challenge for real bowlers to think what to do in changed circumstances.

Henriques did nothing which was a shame. O'Brien has definitely come back with his bowling. After that one game in the ING I thought his bowling was finished but 2/7 in a 20/20 game is remarkable figures.

I consider myself a cricket purist. Nothing gets my juices going more than 5 days of Test Cricket.

However, I went to the game yesterday...

and thought it was an absolute sensation.

It was the people god dammit. I was standing on the concourse, leaning up against the picket fence, chatting to players like Jimmy Maher.

The atmosphere was great and people were taking an interest in domestic cricket. There was action aplenty and it was all over in 2 hours and 20 minutes. What a great fix of cricket in the twilight of a Sunday afternoon.

The only thing which got me down was when I started thinking how sad it was the Bears weren't in the comp anymore - North Sydney really is such a wonderful ground.

This is a great tool to increase interest in the domestic game. It should certainly be expanded upon. Don't take it too seriously and you''ll have a great couple of hours out at the cricket - and when has that ever been a negative?

Cheers.

I loved it - more for the atmosphere, rather than the actual product. Is a bit too smash and bash, but at least there is always something happening, and is refreshing after seeing Jaques Kallis bat in the recent test series.

No way there was only 10,500 there though, the ground was nearly bursting at the seams.

One good thing though was the beer snake that was created and the killjoys (i.e. security guards) not doing anything about it. Definitely will go to another one.

O'Brien did pretty well, unlike his Queensland equivalent... who even chose to bowl in his cap

Thornley just toyed with the bowlers. We always seemed to be in control with the chase.

NSW will be hosting the final against the Vics on January 21 - the ground is yet to be announced. But given the numbers that have been rocking up, I wouldn't be surprised if it's at the SCG.

3 runs off 6 balls? in the latter part of the innings in a 20/20 game
is an absolute disgrace

sounds like a kallis like not out

3 off 6 balls???????????

Anything under a run a ball in 20/20 cricket is shameful.

Though conceding 31 runs off four overs is good by Haurie's standards.
