Isn't 30 a bit old for a player who hasn't even broken first grade yet? Genrally you'd give those spots to young guys with e veiw to grooming them into future stars, our propping ranks must be thin....

Not a fan of Louis I see Humphrey. A certainty for the Kiwis but apparently struggling to make the Warriors bench:|

And I can't really fathom your comments re: Ropati. Ropati has a much higher standing in the game that Matai imo. Matai is generally regarded as one of the worst centres in the comp. Ropati on the other hand has done fine at the Warriors and the only thing that has stopped him in injury. He was a certainty for the Kiwis otherwise.

So you've got about 5 starters in your squad then?

i agree with a lot of humphrys stuff.

louie needs a coach who can get into his head. i reckon he,ll be next seasons 'hardman' a la monty.

sonny fai has to get some game time.

wai koopu should captain the warriors, either this coming season or 07. how he never made the kiwis is beyond me.

is dan o'regan any relation to ron ?

waste of space ?
lauaki
evarn
martin
gatis
luck
villa

the younger kids should get rotating bench time (if not run on) this season coming.

f**k this "making them hungry" bussiness, get them on the field and show some faith in the clubs future.

Ropati is pushed from one position to the next and theres nothing defining about what coaches have done for him if you look back on the potential he had when he played NJC for Auickland and for St Pauls College. Hes got no step further than the day he was signed by the Warriors in terms of upskilling, leadership etc

I disagree entirely personally.

While Jerome has been pushed from pillar to post in terms of his positional play, he for a large part of 2005 found a home in the centre position, and did a more than admirable job. Last few weeks he struggled defensively admittedly, but I believe at the same time was suffering from a groin injury that would have limited his lateral movement, which is crucial in defence out wide when you are defending more space laterally than up the middle of the ruck.

Aside from those last games, and a couple of games where we found out (all but Tony Kemp) that Jerome was not a fullback, Jerome played with a lot of credit. He was good with ball in hand, low error rate, able to beat first up defenders out of dummy half with good strength and decent footwork. He was solid. Remembering how flat the Warriors played (compare Kemp's flat style to McClennan's width and depth) solid was about the best any outside back could attain.

I still have high hopes for this lad, and he is a far superior player and proposition long term than Steve Matai. No disrespect to Matai, but Ropati is a hot talent, capable of stepping up long term - just look back to his performance for the Kiwis.

but thats what buggered jerome up, he knew he wasnt a fullback, the guys on the footy forums knew but kempy thought he was..

i dont know what that period of embarressment did to him but ,as you say, he slotted into center ok.

i prefer ropo at #6 myself, he seems a natural ball player with good vision.

Took the words right out of my mouth.....Got to go with Humphrey and
the Bash (why does that remind me of pinky and the brain LOL) on this
one. Jerrome has shown no skills improvement (in fact has gone backwards)
since he has been with the Warriors. He must be incredibly frustrated.

Thought I'd have a serious look at the new(ish) guys :

Patrick Ah Van Utility back 17/03/1988 183cm 91kg - this player is only 17 and will be a centre, the like of which is rarely seen. He is a centre, not a stand-off or a full-back.

Paul Atkins Fullback/winger 17/12/1982 178cm 83kg - shows signs but is not consistent

Andreas Bauer Utility back 26/09/1982 179cm 91kg - an amazing utility back, but won’t get a go. His name is not in the important note books

Sonny Fai Loose forward/second row 20/03/1988 192cm 105kg - young, has a heap of talent and a goodly bit of mongrel.

Marvin Filipo Winger/centre 20/03/1987 181cm 89kg - not for mine, was a magic junior player but has not repeated.

George Gatis Hooker 25/03/1978 175cm 86kg - who the f**k is George….seriously don’t
know him.

Robinson Godfrey Utility back 01/12/1986 - attitude and other issues will keep this young speedster out.

Roman Hifo Loose forward/second row 17/04/1986 - I like this guy heaps….but read comments for Andreas B above

Simon Mannering Second row/lock/centre 28/08/1986 190cm 94kg - worth another go, was definitely a victim of the Kemp system.

Daniel O'Regan Standoff 03/02/1988 183cm 89kg - too young and I don’t rate, is there on name

Sam Rapira Prop/second row 08/04/1987 183cm 106k- pissed me off all year, nowhere near the right fitness level, let the Stallions down at times.

Misi Taulapapa Winger/fullback 25/01/1982 178cm 81kg - like this bloke….but others don’t. Hope he gets a run.

George Tuakura Prop 11/10/1975 187cm 117kg - too old and too big…nowhere near the fitness level required.

Daniel Vasau Utility 01/08/1982 - goes OK but is not close to NRL…someone is having someone on.

Cooper Vuna Winger/centre 05/07/1987 1.80m 95kg - hopefully will get a go. This young bloke had a major attitude problem a couple of years ago but has lost that now. When he is fit he beat anyone down his wing…..doesn’t like to tackle though….like most outside backs

Whether or not he has improved, he is still a capable NRL player and a hell of a lot better than Steve Matai.

Anyway, injury has been the main thing holding him back. Although I would still like to see him play 6.
