Was having a think last night while watching the game and wondering who would win, I honestly can't see this Panthers team even losing to Storm 2009's team

wonder if its possible to set up on one of the NRL playstation games :>

That Melbourne side had more stars but the current Penrith side is a better team. Just too good defensively and don’t make errors.

Looking at the Storm side. I think Panthers got them covered. Actually had more plodders in the side than I remembered.

2007 team looked a lot stronger for Storm IMO. Still had some plod though.

If the storm teams complied with the cap they would look very different.

So no, we're not going to just disregard the cheating.

Panthers better drilled side, Storm better individual stars, I’d say Storm would take it on the back of some individual brilliance and cam smiths game control. Unless will chambers fcked up again!

2017 Storm was less plod imo (other than vunivalu)

I reckon 2017 Storm roll this panthers team comfortably while the 2009 wouldnt deal as well with the relentless defence of the panthers.

interesting comparison either way as both the current Panthers and peak Storm were teams built in a similar way with the majority of players debuting for the team in first grade. Difference being panthers mostly through their junior system whereas Storm was mostly solid scouting and finding players who couldn’t get a run elsewhere

Melbourne were the most dominant team I'd ever seen, but even back then they didn't have the best pack and teams like Manly had plenty of success turning their games into dogfights. With Leota, Fisher-Harris, Yeo etc. I could just see Penrith doing what they did last night and having too much for Melbourne.

Not to mention, Cleary had a reasonable record against Melbourne around that time. With all due respect to the Warriors of that era, I'd say Ivan has better players to work with.

Before the salary cap scandal came out, I thought this was a remarkable achievement from Melbourne. Melbourne had well and truly fallen back to the pack and were beginning to look vulnerable. However they timed their run to perfection, smashed Manly and Brisbane and were all over Parramatta until Chambers decided to play at a goal-line drop out that hadn't gone 10.

I think Storm 2017 were better than 2009. They didn't really have much competition though that year. Panthers haven't had any this finals series yet either; an SJless Warriors and a Storm team that were veeeeery lucky to even be there.

Apples and oranges. One is a team built off local juniors and the other is salary cap cheating scum. No comparison can be made.
