Obiviously in general it was a terribly disappointing season, we got ourselves in a good position to make the 8 and as all Elliot sides do, we faded terribly in the back end. With that said, let's go through and provide ratings for players and coach.

Matt Elliot = 2/10 - The side started off playing pretty well defensively, but our attack always relied on individual brilliance and the defense disappeared when it mattered most. The guy sucks, his gameplans are terrible and he can't lift the side for big games, so pissed off that he has been re-signed.

Jarrod Sammut = 3.5/10 - Shows flashes of individual brilliance which are overshadowed by his ability to make regular mistakes, poor positional play and woeful defense. Takes risks when they are not required, has ability but he is a selfish player and I don't think he has the physical traits to play first grade, I think we may have seen his last game.

Lachlan Coote = 5.5/10 - The fact that he couldn't wrestle the starting fullback job from Sammut says a lot, but he is still very young. Needs to improve his support play and get bigger and stronger, but I was impressed with his positional play, footwork and ability to contribute in the backline. Defensively weak also but at least he has a go, should improve with strength training. Would like to see him starting from day one next season.

Shane Elford = 5/10 - A solid first grade winger, nothing more, nothing less. Was effective running from dummy half and was solid defensively, but he ain't the kind of player that will elevate the play of our side, he is more of a solid fill-in. I'd be happy to see him stick around for depth, nothing more.

Junior Tia Kilifi = 7/10 - So disappointing to see him leave us, while many other backs (cough cough Jennings) seem to disappear when the going gets tough, this guy continues to rip in to help out our forwards and he is very effective taking the ball up from dummy half. Has good pace, strong ball runner and solid defensively, has plenty of potential but our club would prefer to develop David Simmons, so disappointed, I wish him all the best at the Bulldogs.

Michael Gordon = 7/10 - One of our most consistent players, always helps out the forwards, very reliable and an amazing goal kicker. Injury obviously hampered his season, but I though he was a bit underwhelming in the last month, showed little urgency against the Eels and had little effect at fullback. Generally a strong ball runner, plenty of pace and safe under the high ball, hope to see him play a bit better next season, may get another stint at fullback if Coote goes down.

Michael Jennings = 8/10 - Our best back and biggest gamebreaker, Jennings certainly delivered this season and forced his way into the NSW side. The guy has amazing pace and acceleration, a nightmare to stop one on one, without his individual brilliance we would have lost many more games. Furthermore, I believe he has succeeded in spite of our game plans as he rarely received early clean ball. Having said that I believe he has some things to work on to reach the next level, his defense is still suspect (McDougall made him look ordinary yesterday) and he goes missing when the team needs him most (in the last month of the season did nothing). He needs to step up and become a leader if he wants $400k a season, I don't want us paying him that if he only touches the ball 5-6 times per game.

Brad Tighe = 6/10 - Showed glimpses of pace and game breaking ability, but this is overshadowed by poor ball handling and poor defense. I thought he played better as the season went on and by the end was one of our better attacking weapons, should be a starter for next season.

Geoff Daniela = 4/10 - Many here like him but I think he is overrated, did very little for us this season and is a defensive liability, has little to worry opposing defenders. While I would prefer to keep him over Simmons, not sad to see him leave us.

Wade Graham = 6/10 - Still a promising young player in my eyes, but I agree that his lack of pace and footwork may be his downfall. He tries very hard, has natural leadership skills, great passing game and a surprisingly good kicking game (Walsh should allow him to kick more often). Needs to work on his defense and his ability to beat people one on one, needs to develop that ability that Lewis has to hold the ball in two hands and slide through gaps. I'm starting to agree with Fibor though that his best position may be lock, should get another crack at 5/8 next season.

Luke Walsh = 7/10 - Say what you want about him but our team would not have been challenging for a final birth without him. Obviously played his best football during midseason where he had an effective running game, great organiser, was kicking well and giving early ball to our threats out wide. However he certainly regressed as the season went on and became a huge defensive liability, his kicking game was woeful and he became an 'inside ball' machine. Knights fans tell me he is the kind of player who follows his coaches instructions down to a tee, this may explain his regression. For us to compete next season, he needs to start and return to his form earlier this season.

Petero Civoniceva = 8/10 - The heart and soul of the side, I don't think it's a co-incidence that the side fell apart in his absence, the intangibles that he brings can not be quanitified. Tough, a metre eater, a workhorse and born leader, he has been worth every penny that we paid, but he can't keep going forever, hopefully he can help some of the younger guys develop.

Frank Puletua = 5/10 - Again, a solid first grader who would not be starting for most teams in the comp. Tries hard and has a dig, but is physically not up to this level and fails to give us good go forward. Couple that with his regualr handling errors and he is nothing more than serviceable, he has been a good influence however on some of the other young islanders.

Matthew Bell = 5.5/10 - Not much better that Puletua, tries hard but is ineffective. I'm glad they re-signed him for depth purposes, however ideally he should not be starting as he lacks any pop at the line, provides little impact.

Tim Grant = 4/10 - So very very disappointing, was hoping for big things from this guy but he continues to disappoint. I know props don't generally kick on until there mid 20s, but this guy was re-signed and needs to show something. I thought Petero coming over would've been the best thing for him, he still looks too light, skinny legs and lacks any impact at the line, also needs to develop some mongrel. Next season will be make or break for him IMO.

Paul Aiton = 6/10 - Was one of our better players early in the season, but like many other players I believe our coaching has not been adapted to his strengths. In the past, Aiton was known as a livewire off the bench, is strength was as an impact player off the bench and a very good runner of the football from dummy half. With that in mind, Elliot decides to make him an 80min player which essentially takes away his biggest strength. Aiton definitely regressed as the season wore on, while he running game his still his biggest strength, his inability to develop a kicking game or better passing game has made him quite limited, couple that with some inept defensive displays, I think he is repalceable.

Masada Iosefa = 4/10 - Showed very little during his limited time on the field, another young player who has failed to develop, I think in his case a lot of it falls back to his shoulders. Has been involved in some off the field incidents and his conditioning look poor to say the least, needs to pull his finger out as he is the logical replacement for Aiton, it's between him and Romelo who we say very little of in FG.

Trent Waterhouse = 8.5/10 - Our player of the season in my eyes, not the flashiest player but god he gets through a mountain of work in defense and still provides impact with ball in hand. Averaged 15 hitups (2nd in side behind Petero) and 34 tackles (1st in side) all season, if only some of our other players put in as much as he does, great to see him earn a NSW recall.

Frank Pritchard = 7/10 - The enigma that is peanuts. On his day he can be one of the better players in the comp, usually his day comes against inferior opposition or for meaniingless games. However too many times he disappears in big game or when we need him most (see last 2 games). As much as I would love to re-sign him based on his good games, I believe it would be rewarding mediocrity and laziness, I also worry about his influence on the younger kids. Some much potential, if only you could manufacture heart.

Joseph Paulo = 4.5/10 - Another young prospect that has failed to develop under Elliot, looks like a poor mans Pritchard but with half the ability. Completely ineffective in terms of metres gained, has some ball playing ability at the line but fails to do the tough stuff first, also he defense is questionable. Again, next season is make or break for him, I would rather try some of the other guys (e.g. Penese, Moors, etc).

Luke Lewis = 8/10 - One of our best and most consistent performers all season, earning him NSW honours. The bloke is all class, a rock in defense and has develop into a handy ball playing lock, has that innate ability to slide between defenders and break the line. Injury affected his season however he was pretty quite in our most important games, he is a crucial part of the side as he takes pressure off the halves.

Nathan Smith = 5/10 - A very poor mans Lewis, without the ball playing or ability to break the line. He does work tirelessly and he did seem to develop more impact in his running game, however he is an average first grader who offers very little, but he is a toiler and you do need these guys in you side. However Lewis offers everything Smith does and more, and can't really have him off the bench and he offers little impact. Also prone to handling errors and giving away silly penalties.

Maurice Blair = 6/10 - Had to work his way into the side as his conditioning was obviously quite poor, but by the end of the season I thought he was one of our most improved players. Has plenty of natural ability, a big and strong runner of the football with surprising pace, when his head is on right he can be an impact player, also showed me some ticker in defense late in the season. I think the coaches need to push him all offseason and have him raring to go, he should be in our top 17 if his head is right, not quite sure where though. I like his mongrel.

Gavin Cooper = 5.5/10 - An above average first grader, nothing more or nothing less. Very solid defender who offers nothing in attack, in an ideal world he should not be in our top 17.

Adam Woolnough = 5.5/10 - I didn't mind the signing at the time but the guy has had too many injuries, played sparingly this season and was in effective when he did. I wish him all the best in future endeavours.

My side for opening day 2010:

1. Lachlan Coote
2. Brad Tighe
3. Michael Jennings
4. Maurice Blair
5. Michael Gordon
6. Wade Graham
7. Luke Walsh

Matt Elliot = 1/10 - To those that think this clown can coach your serioslly having yourself on, no game plan, no skills, no ingenuity
Last year he based our traing on the Melbourne Storm model that was so successful for them, this year he based it on the Hawthorn model, i'm still waiting to see the Matthew Elliott model, try something new you idiot.

Jarrod Sammut = 2/10 - Back up player at best

Lachlan Coote = 6.5/10 - Our fullback, is all class, does need to bulk up though.

Shane Elford = 5/10 - See you later Shane, all you did was keep JTK out of 1st grade

Junior Tia Kilifi = 7/10 - Disappointed he is leaving

Michael Gordon = 7/10 - Mister consistency but is good for at least 1 decent injury a year, keep him on the wing don't move him.

Michael Jennings = 8/10 - Nothing needs to be said about Jennings, has been heavily marked since SOO and I don't think he got over his injuries from SOO

Brad Tighe = 6.5/10 - Start him on the wing outside Jenko next year, has had a couple of games there and gone okay

Geoff Daniela = 4/10 - Good luck at the Tiger Geoff, not fussed about losing him

Wade Graham = 7/10 - Went welll this year for an 18 year old in his first full season, played injured for a part of the season as well, will dominate in the next year or 2.

Luke Walsh = 7/10 - Totally agree on Walshy AB, next season needs to concentrate on getting the right side moving and let Wade worry about the left.

Petero Civoniceva = 8/10 - Retire from rep football please, offers the team so much.

Frank Puletua = 5/10 - Thanks for your efforts this year Frank, don't want to see him go round again but would like to keep him at the club in some kind of mentoring role for the younger polynesian kids (Ball, Matthews and Toyota cup).

Matthew Bell = 5/10 - Depth only, offers very little in attack and can read defense poorly as well.

Tim Grant = 5/10 - We haven't seen the best of Tim yet, I'd make him hit the weights and protein shakes this off season.

Paul Aiton = 4/10 - Not that fussed at losing him, defence is a bit weak at times and scoots out of dummy half to often for mine, service from dummy half is a bit ordinary at time as well

Masada Iosefa = 5/10 - I thought played okay early in the season but off field incidents were his downfall this year, if he knuckles down and has a good offseason next year will be a good year for him

Trent Waterhouse = 8/10 - One of our better players this year but I think his future will be in the front row.

Frank Pritchard = 7/10 - Bit hard to gauge Pritchard, got injured when playing really well.

Joseph Paulo = 6/10 - Played out of position by Elliott, is a back rower and prefers left hand side like Pritchard, was made to play right side and front rower by Elliott

Luke Lewis = 7/10 - One of our best and was playing awesome until he got hurt, came back to early and appeared to play injured late in the year, should of waited till next year.

Nathan Smith = 3/10 - Poor attacking weapon, poor defender, should be playing for Windsor or Super League not 1st grade for the Panthers

Maurice Blair = 6/10 - Had a good end to the season considering he was played out of position, right centre is his go and can get a ball away to his winger.

Gavin Cooper = 5/10 - Good solid 1st grader, played well in patches this year but played in the centres, second row and front row, play him second row on the right side or not at all.

Adam Woolnough = 3/10 - Announced he was going to retire because he lost the desire to play which showed in some of his efforts this year

My side for opening day 2010:

1.Coote
2.Gordon
3.Blair
4.Jennings
5.Tighe
6.Graham
7.Walsh
8.Petero
9.Romelo
10.Waterhouse
11.Paulo
12.Cooper
13.Lewis
14.Iosefa
15.Grant
16.Arona
17.Pritchard

Matt Elliot = 0/10 - He held our team back rather then achieving more success the people expected from us. We looked great when we were suffering from injuries, but that was only because team selection was out of the coaches hands. Once we were back at full strength (or near it) he was fielding worse teams each week and our performances reflected this.

Jarrod Sammut = 6.5/10 - Rating him anything less then a 5 is an absolute joke. When he was out on the field he was atleast showing some heart and willing to do anything he could to put us in a position to win the game. He made plenty of mistakes, but he also done some amazing things on the field. His game against the Cowboys was the best performance from a Panthers fullback since Rhys Wesser was carving up for us.

Lachlan Coote = 5/10 - He is a tough little fella and is a bit safer then Jarrod Sammut. But i'm not convinced he's cut out for first grade footy yet. Seems to get injured far too easily and doesn't provide the same spark that Sammut does.

Shane Elford = 5/10 - Solid without being spectacular. Should have been a depth player. Definitely didn't cost us in his performances.

Junior Tia Kilifi = 6/10 - He only got a few matches and didn't have enough opportunity to earn a higher score. I think he would have been going for an 8/10 if he had played the entire season to the standard he did with us frame his debut.

Michael Gordon = 8/10 - If he could get over his injuries he would be the absolute perfect back. He's safe, consistant, brilliant goalkicker and can cover fullback, wing or centre. The impact he makes when he is back in the side is immediately obvious IMO.

Michael Jennings = 8/10 - Probably lucky to keep an 8/10... he was pushing 9.5/10 between the start of the season and Origin 3. But since then he hasn't been that involved at all and has Been extremely dissapointing. He had several games in a row where he grabbed a hat trick, following by several in a row where he barely even looked at the ball.

Brad Tighe = 5/10 - He had a mixed season this year. The first half of the season he would have been lucky to get a 2/10 from me, but the back half of the season he was a good 7 or 8. So i'll meet halfway for him. Hopefully he starts 2010 off in the same form he had toward the back end of this season.

Geoff Daniela = 5/10 - Only had limited opportunities and aside from one very poor game he did has job brilliantly. I'm a bit dissapointed he wasn't given more of a chance, but since he's leaving it's not that big of a loss.

Wade Graham = 6/10 - He had a mixed season... but he showed enough to prove he has a bright future in NRL.

Luke Walsh = 6/10 - He was absolutely wonderful when he first got here, but it looks like Matt Elliott rubbed off on him a bit and turned him into an average half toward the end of the season.

Petero Civoniceva = 7/10 - Was solid in all of his performances. Lost a point for letting a toe injury keep him out. :p

Frank Puletua = 5/10 - He's a bit like Frank Pritchard. Nowhere near as damaging obviously, but he will have a big game one week where he stands up and shows some awesome form, followed by several weeks of average footy.

Matthew Bell = 6.5/10 - Had a very strong season IMO. Looked great when we were at full strength. Did a decent job to help minimise the loss of Petero. Easily our second best front rower.

Tim Grant = 4/10 - Very dissapointed in Timmy Grant. I was expecting him to come out and compete with Petero. He looked great in the trials but didn't bring it into the season.

Paul Aiton = 7.5/10 - Very solid season. Will be a massive loss. Romelo and Iosefa certainly have more potential then Aiton, but he is in sensational form right now and consistant.

Masada Iosefa = 3/10 - Probably the biggest dissapointment of the season for me. I rate him so highly and he looked like he was worse this year then he was when he made his debut. Has the potential to be one of the elite hookers in the game... although he might not have the attitude to ever achieve that.

Trent Waterhouse = 9/10 - Was basically flawless for us all season. Biggest surprise of our team for me. In the trials he was absolutely awful. But he showed up every single week and put in 110% in everything he did. Hopefully he can perform like that again next season.

Frank Pritchard = 5.5/10 - Against the Souths he probably put in the best performance from any Panther in any match this season. In most other matches he was basically non-existant. Even his non existant performances were enough to hurt teams a bit... but it would be great to see him play with the passion that house has.

Joseph Paulo = 5/10 - Used ineffectively by Matt Elliott... solid without being spectacular. Was a waste of a bench spot/substitute most of the time though.

Luke Lewis = 7/10 - Was basically a 10/10 player until he got injured. The past few weeks he has had the same effort in his game, but has not been as effective. Although it could be a result of the team around himc rumbling.

Nathan Smith = 4.5/10 - He done a good job for us while we were missing House, Pritchard and Lewis. But he's not good enough for a spot at full strength. It's a waste of a bench spot to include him on the bench... he has no impact.

Maurice Blair = 5/10 - Really lifted his game toward the end of the season. Hopefully he continues to work on it for 2010. Has the potential to be one of the most damaging centres in the game.

Gavin Cooper = 5/10 - Was great when used off the bench or starting in the backrow. Was terrible when used int he backline.

My side for opening day 2010:

1.Lachlan Coote
2.Brad Tighe
3.Michael Jennings
4.Maurice Blair
5.Michael Gordon
6.Wade Graham
7.Luke Walsh
8.Matt Bell
9.Masada Iosefa
10.Petero Civoniceva (c)
11.Gavin Cooper
12.Trent Waterhouse
13.Luke Lewis

14.Jarrod Sammut
15.Frank Pritchard
16.Tim Grant
17.Sam McKendry / Tini Arona

Obviously we will all have different opinions, however I graded players with the idea that '5' is an average first grader, to me Sammut is a below average first grader and would not be a starting fullback on any other side in the comp. Sure he showed flashes of brilliance but the guy just makes way too many mistakes and is not a team player, maybe I was a bit harsh but 4.5 would be my maximum, he is too small and too slow to play FG.

Hey MX, are you concerned with what you have seen from Gordon in the past month? His lack of urgency in the Eels game was very concerning, seems a common trend throughout our team...

I'm not concerned with Michael Gordon having a lack of urgency. He's a great player, extremely smart and does his job well. I think it's more likely that the coach instructed him to stay in the line and not drop back to help out or fullback.

It's not impossible that he just didn't care. But it's far more likely that he was following terrible instructions from the coach.

2009.

Poor recruiting.
Poor game plan.
Inside ball twice in every set.
Poor kicking game.
Not enough ball to Jennings and Pritchard.
Elliott trying to justify the dollars spent on the likes of Smith, Cooper, Woolnough and caving in the the bleeding heart Sammut fans that think it is really brave to run at a front rower at full pelt and make 20 mistakes a game whilst wearing red or yellow boots.

Matt Elliot = 4/10 - Early in the year I thought he'd turned a corner but it all fell apart late in the year and he had no excuses.

Jarrod Sammut = 5/10 - Tries really hard and showed some good flashes but inconsistency really hurt him. He has the talent and the ticker. He just needs the discipline. I still believe he's our best option at number one believe it or not.

Lachlan Coote = 5/10 - Is a good player in his own right but doesn't offer the spark or support play that Sammut does. Is a bit safer and better defensively though. I could easily see him in the number one with some minor improvements. Support play being the biggest one.

Shane Elford = 4/10 - Did his job and all that was asked of him. Helped out the forwards well. It's disappointing he kept Tia-Kilifi out of first grade for so long though.

Junior Tia Kilifi = 7.5/10 - One of our best when he was given the chance. Played hard and got involved even when the ball wasn't coming his way. Huge loss for next year and has a ton of potential. One of the few in the team still putting in over the last two games.

Michael Gordon = 7/10 - Good solid player. Safe under the high ball and great defensively. Killer goal kicker. Is a winger, not a fullback or centre.

Michael Jennings = 7.5/10 - Went missing in bigger games and really tailed off towards the end of the year. Was sensational leading up to the first origin and for a short period of time just afterwards. Needs to go looking for the ball when it isn't coming to him.

Brad Tighe = 6/10 - Really picked up towards the end of the year and was solid defensively. Inconsistent though.

Geoff Daniela = 3/10 - Never understood the love for this guy. Not great in defense and didn't offer a whole lot in attack. Not a huge loss.

Wade Graham = 7.5/10 - Was very consistent all year. Should of been getting more ball. Great under used kicking game. Played his heart out every game.

Luke Walsh = 6/10 - Started well but fizzled out. His defense and kicking game towards the back end of the year were woeful. An offseason with the team will do him the world of good.

Petero Civoniceva = 7.5/10 - Hugely missed whenever he was out. His leadership and go forward were the two things that we needed most in the last few games. Having him back at full strength next year will be a huge boost.

Frank Puletua = 5/10 - Did his job and always put in. Missed Petero's influence though.

Matthew Bell = 5.5/10 - Tried hard and on many occasions (most when Petero was out) was our best forward.

Tim Grant = 4/10 - Sooooooooooooooo disappointing. Really needs to lift. Lacks mongrel. I really think he could be something.

Paul Aiton = 7/10 - Was great for us all year, pretty solid in defense and gave good service out of dummy half. Pretty disappointing loss.

Masada Iosefa = 4/10 - Like Grant he was disappointing this year and had somehow gone backwards from last year. Deserves first crack at hooker but needs to get his head on straight.

Trent Waterhouse = 10/10 - Easily our best player all year. Put in each and every single game and never stopped trying. Only one of very few who can hold their heads up after the Parramatta/Newcastle embarassment.

Frank Pritchard = 6/10 - Here one week, gone the next two or three. He just seems disinterested at times and clocks off. Some weeks he's tearing it up all over the place, others you wouldn't even know he's out there. Really needed at times and totally MIA.

Joseph Paulo = 4/10 - Good workrate but doesn't really have much impact.

Luke Lewis = 7.5/10 - Tried too hard in the Eels game and injuries really robbed him of what could of been a great year. Always gives it everything.

Nathan Smith = 4/10 - Decent defender but like Paulo doesn't have any impact at all off the bench.

Maurice Blair = 6/10 - Never locked down a position but more often than not came up with the goods. Really started to show some form late in the year. Could be a really good player if he can get motivated.

Gavin Cooper = 5/10 - Great defender, really good workrate. Doesn't have the impact but tries his ass off game in and game out. Got moved around way too much and isn't a centre. Deserves a bench spot though.

Next year I'd go with:

1. Rhys Wesser (get him back from Souths! They don't need him) But seriously, probably Sammut or Coote. Whoever shows more during the trials. There isn't room for both.
2. Brad Tighe
3. Michael Jennings
4. Maurice Blair
5. Michael Gordon
6. Wade Graham
7. Luke Walsh
8. Petero Civoniceva
9. Masada Iosefa
10. Frank Puletua (I'd imagine we'll resign him, nothing else on the market)
11. Trent Waterhouse
12. Frank Pritchard
13. Luke Lewis

14. Matt Bell
15. Tim Grant
16. Gavin Cooper
17. Joel Romelo

I can't beleive our teams were fighting for his services. He is such an ordinary, generic player. We already have one of these in Glenn Turner anyway.

The Roosters could use a player like Cooper or Smith, if the Panthers didn't want him.

Your issue is that the pack plays too many 'workers', when guys with tremendous attacking potential like Penese are missing out.

Our problem is that we have plenty of attack-orientated forwards like Willie Mason, Setaimata Sa, Tom Symonds and Anthony Cherrington, but these guys get drained very quick because they are being forced to make lots of tackles and they get beaten laterally. However, we have not enough solid workers who can rack up 30+ tackles like Fitzgibbon (now leaving) and Harrison (who left at the end of 2007). Smith and Cooper make plenty of tackles and could take the defensive workload off our bigger men so that they can actually be more effective in attack.

Trade? Setaimata Sa for Nathan Smith or Gavin Cooper? :D

Honestly, I feel sorry for your club.

I thought 2009 would be the huge wake up call your club needed. I thought with any luck, you'd start terribly and the club would tap Elliot on the shoulder and politely tell him he wasn't apart of their future plans. Unfortunately, your club rallied and your sleeping giants finally woke up and became accounted for, putting in titanic efforts in a bid to make the finals for the first time. Penrith would've made it too had it not been for the cruel injury toll that jeoperdised your season. Despite it, your boys constantly put in when they could've just accepted defeat and once again this turned out to be your downfall as the mountain obviously became too high to climb by the final two weeks where you were the walking wounded.

As I illuded to, there were some positives you can take out of 2009.

Your biggest prospect, Michael Jennings, got a taste of represenative football. Obviously it was a premature move for the talented youngster but a positive never the less as I believe it'll make him a better player. With any luck, he may even be there for the Quad Nations tour, a tour that would be very beneficial for a player of his stature.

The recruitment of Luke Walsh was an absolute master stroke. Just when it appeared you were going to struggle for a quality half, young Luke comes knocking on your door and you finally found someone who can play a bit of footy. He may not be perfect, but with time I believe he'll be one of the best halves in New South Wales.

Finally, your backrow showed what it was made of. Waterhouse and Lewis were absolutely brilliant for most of the year and while the latter declined in form following a number of injuries, I believe this belief will instill into them a new found confidence and that's a rare commodity in what can be a cruel game.

If you are to improve in 2010, obviously you're going to have to construct a better backline. The likes of Tighe, Elford and Simmons are absolute fringe first graders who would find it difficult to get starts at most clubs. Surely you must have some promising juniors coming through?

Also you're going to have to find a better front-row partner for big Petero. Grant is obviously a top prospect but surely you have some better forwards who can help assist up front? Matt Bell and Frank Pritchard are nothing but mistake ridden toilers. Handy for the odd game but out of their depth in most others.

Also how's Masada's defence? Surely it must be better than Aitons?

I wish you and your club the best of luck in 2010.

The season wasn't all bad. Its just that Penrith fans have a bitter taste in our mouths because it turned out to be almost a repeat of last season. 1 place and 1 win better off isn't really good enough is it? and to make it now 5 years straight without a finals appearance, obviously its pretty embarassing for the club, players and fans that we underachieve so much.

Alot people tipped us to come last or 2nd last, we well and truly avoided that and so those outside of us will say we didn't have too bad a year, but the fans expect alot more and so we should. Constantly coming 11th or 12th is not acceptable. Heads must roll.

my beef all year has been the lack of structure.I stated last year this was a problem at times they look completly lost in attack. Both channel nine and 2gb commentators all said the attack looked like the meet each other on the way to the ground. Now this is at the end of the year.So a complete year of training achieved nothing
I have followed penrith for as long as i can remember and believe me we have had many teams with way less talent than this team. But at least they had structure and plans of attack .Decoy runners.
We constantly fall down in the simple basics of the game

Thanks for the post. Unfortunately there is slim pickings in lower grades other clubs have cleaned us out. NYC 13th, NSW Cup 2nd last, SG Ball Harold matts 11th. we may get competent NRL players from there but we need match winners.

I used to blame ME. However he has mentioned publicly he wants Carney,
Tuqiri, Hunt etc only to be vetoed by higher up. We don't use the marquee player rule. $150k could buy a decent player.

Despite letting Rooney, Puletua, Wesser, Priddis, Rodney and getting Cooper, Elford and Walsh go we could only offer Aiton $70k. Couldn't make
JTK an offer so something is wrong higher than player and coach level.

As for recruitment or lack of it. We need spark Phil Graham would be a nice start to many safe players besides Jennings nothing! As for Hooker Romelo prob will be number 1 next year seems to give better service and hits harder then Masada. 1 positive Graham 19, Coote 19, Walsh 22 so a full year of 1st grade should help them next year and beyond

Good luck yourself for 2010.

We have a few players who are outstanding, Gordon (I forgive his so, so late season effort because he didn't appear to have
completely recovered from his ankle surgery). Jennings, brilliant when he's on, but doesn't go out of his way looking for work.
Lewis, our best player. Pritchard, our forwards' version of Jennings. Petero, still the best prop in the game.

The rest are average or worse. Excluding Graham, who probably shouldn't have the responsibility at his age, and played on
injured. Not giving up on him.

Our coach. The dictionary says a coach is, " a person employed to teach, train or prepare people for a particular purpose"
Well, you only have to look at our game plans, our skill levels, the development of our young players, and our results, to see
what a failure he's been. He might be happy with a progression from 16th to 12th to 11th, but I sure the f**k aren't.
