Skyrim for my GOTY. Arkham City and Fifa 12 get an honorable mention.

Disappointment of the year = Dragon Age 2. Need more than a year and a half to make a game like DA.

Bioware died the day Dragon Age 2 was released. Now they're talking about Dragon Age multiplayer using the battlefield 3 engine

Dark Souls for me. It's not perfect by any means, but it's extremely addictive.

I like Skyrim but I find I need to convince myself not to play Dark Souls.

I'll break mine down into categories, otherwise I'd be ranting in a wall of text.

Best FPS/Shooter
Battlefield 3
Runner Up: Gears of War 3

Best RPG
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Runner Up: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Best Strategy Game
Shogun 2: Total War
Runner Up: Dawn of War 2: Retribution

Best Action Game
Uncharted 3
Runner Up: Batman: Arkham City

Best Sports Game
FIFA 12
Runner Up: Wallabies Rugby Challenge

Other notables: Dark Souls, Gears of War 3, Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Marvel VS Capcom 3, The Team ICO Collection, inFamous 2, Crysis 2.

Overall GOTY:
It's a tie between Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Shogun 2: Total War for mine, they are the two best games I played this year, followed to an inch by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Other Awards
Favourite Game:
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
This is different to my GOTY as it is my favorite experience but not the highest quality one. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with Skyrim.

Favorite Moment:
This is another tie between several moments, including;
The Introduction in Arkham City, the Mr Freeze boss battle in Arkham City, the first boss in Dark Souls, the "Madworld" scene in Gears of War 3, the Revelation in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the first mission in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the final battle in Dawn of War 2: Retribution, the opening of Shadow of the Colossus, the glimpse of the first colossus in Shadow of the Colossus, a few more I've missed.

Best Soundtrack:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Runner Up: Shadow of the Colossus

Best Visuals:
A tie between Battlefield 3, Crysis 2 and Uncharted 3.

Best Story:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Runner Up: Batman: Arkham City

Arkham City imo is peerless as far as 2011 releases go. The latest GoW wasn't too bad either.

Agreed, re-experiencing it at the moment and every moment is just oozing with finesse and perfection. I'm still more inclined to nominate Deus Ex and Shogun 2 this year though. Shogun 2 was astonishly close to being the best strategy game I have ever played, and Deus Ex was just on another level to most other games.

By the way, should have specified in my list that they were based on games I played.
I'm sure people saw Rugby Challenge on my list and laughed.
