Dont the 2 grand finalists get to choose their opponent in rd 1? And also get a home game?

In 2008, the 2009 draw was released in GF week.

In 2009, the 2010 draw was released in Prelim final week.

I dare say the pattern will continue. The concept is to "strike while the iron is hot", get people interested in next season while they're still thinking about RL and not cricket. It also allows the clubs to set up membership packages a little earlier.

It would seem so this year, might not til be mid-October now.

Would also make sense for them to give the exact dates of all matches which I expect they won't do!

no, this won't happen until the 2013 season ( when the new tv deal is in place )

Spoke to the NRL - to paraphrase there's no official release date yet but it will be announced "after the completion of the 2010 season" with the first 5 round schedule dates confirmed about a month after that. Looks like it's going back to the old method.
