Shame for Wigan, but they'd been flirting with the drop for a few years now

Even though I'm sure they're happy with the prizemoney, winning the FA Cup might well have cost them PL status

So as it stands, England's Europa reps next season are 5th, 9th and 18th...

So the Bin dippers will be retiring their Purple 'europe' kit then?

2nd time in 3 seasons that one of England's Europa representatives will be playing in the Championship.

Now Wigan can start throwing money around again to get back up and then everyone can forget about it and they can go back to being "plucky" and "a win for football over money".

With nearly 3.4 million quid in FA Cup prizemoney and Europa revenue to look forward to, Wigan are probably in better shape than most to cope with being relegated

As usual though, much depends on who they can hang on to...

They won't beat Arse. As lol-worthy as Arse have been for much of this season, their recent form has been quite good. Missing 4th place would be a disaster for them, so they'll be just as motivated as Wigan, who they have comprehensively out-gunned.
We've conceded just 1 goal in open play in 2 months. We're top of the league over the last 10 games. Undefeated in 8.

The seeds for '13-'14 are growing now.
When was the last time that only 4th place was undecided going into the last day?
3rd place as well.

If Chelsea draw and Arsenal win by 1 goal (while scoring at least 2) there will be a 3rd place playoff.

3rd place as well.

If Chelsea draw 0-0 and Arsenal wins 2-1 then it'd be an exact tie.
If Chelsea draw 1-1 and Arsenal only win 1-0 or 2-1 then Chelsea take 3rd because they've scored more goals overall.

To be a tie winning by 1 Arsenal have to score 2 more goals than Chelsea's draw.

Either way if it does end up like that it's something I don't remember seeing before.

we can only hope but highly unlikely

we just don't seem to have much luck when it comes to UCL qualification even when we finish 4th

Finishing fourth is easy though

Winning the tounament is really the only honourable way to qualify...

finishing 4th is easy if you spend 100 mill a season on player transfers

anyone with a sugar daddy can do that, it doesn't take any skill, just money

Villa Park primed for third-place play-off

May 17, 2013

The Premier League has announced that a possible third-place play-off between Chelsea and Arsenal will take place at Villa Park on May 26.
Should the scenario arise, the Blues' tour match against Manchester City in the USA scheduled for the day before could jeopardised.
The play-off will only take place if results on Sunday mean the two London clubs are equal on points, goal difference and goals scored.
A Premier League statement said: "Should a play-off be necessary the Premier League has made arrangements for a single match to take place at Villa Park on Sunday 26 May 2013.
"The match will take place early afternoon with a kick-off time to be confirmed should results require the match to go ahead."
Chelsea are due to play City twice in the USA - with the second match at New York's Yankee stadium on May 25, the day before the play-off date.
The Premier League statement says both the clubs have been consulted. It states: "In the event of results in the Chelsea v Everton and Newcastle v Arsenal Barclays Premier League matches being a Chelsea draw, and an Arsenal win by a single-goal margin having scored two more than Chelsea, both teams would be level on points, goal difference and goals scored.
"Under Premier League Rules this would lead to a play-off being required to decide which club finishes third and fourth, thereby determining which club enters the UEFA Champions League at the group stage and which at the play-off stage.
"The Premier League has consulted with the two clubs throughout the process of planning for this potential match with all parties in agreement that, should it be required, it should take place as soon as possible after the end of the season.
"Discussions with London-based stadia did take place as part of that process but limited availability and calendar restrictions, combined with wanting to use a large capacity ground that has experience in organising and delivering neutral matches, meant Villa Park was the most suitable choice."
Tickets will be allocated equally between each club and will be priced at £20 and £30 with concessions for children and senior citizens priced at a 50% reduction.

It's good that we'd have a spell next week, given that it would be our 70th game of the season

So it appears young Gareth has just won the Barclays Player of the year with Fergie getting manager of the year.

I think thats a clean sweep for young Gareth winning all possible player awards.

And in ever better news he is now signing a contract upgrade and extension to stay at Spurs. \\\\:D/

Halftime in round 38, and the last two CL spots are still up for grabs

3. Chelsea 73 (+35)
4. Arsenal 71 (+34)
5. Tottenham 70 (+19)

Arsenal need another Everton goal and one of their own to take third

Spurs need a goal to grab fourth...
