I wouldn't go as far as to call Italy an excitement machine or claim they play Joga Bonito but I've rather enjoyed watching them the last year or two. They certainly aren't what they are traditionally known for IMO

Agree Buffon had to go. Still think he missed the ball but I'll watch it again later and see if he did or not.

That's been the biggest turnaround under Prandelli.

I can't believe I just read that they played catanaccio at Euro 2012. f**k me dead.

Every time Italy play defensively (a lot) that comparison is made. Carry on all you like.

Yes, by ignorant observers with very little understanding of the game.

Italy did not play defensively at all at Euro 2012. FFS they got four goals put past them in the final. If anything they didn't play defensive enough.

Did you watch the entire tournament, or just the final?

You seem upset.

It can't really be catenaccio without the Libero anyway.

They haven't had a defensive mentality for a few years nd there are definitely similarities with Juventus and Italy from what I saw in The CL & Euro 2012. There is certainly more adventure in their game than I've ever known.

From memory they were the only big team that lined up with 2 upfront (I know Croatia do too) it just depends if they go 3 at the back and use wingbacks or have a traditional 4 man defensive set up with the playmaker and anchor man in the central roles.

Not upset at all, ignorance is bliss. Calling Italy under Prandelli catenaccio is ridiculous.

Catenaccio hasn't existed since the 60s.

TT I think Juve are slightly more defensive than Prandelli's Italy. Purely because they have more steel in midfield with the likes of Pogba and especially Vidal. Juve also lack a decent striker whereas Italy have used Balotelli and Cassano who would both walk into the Juve side at the moment.

I still think Prandelli is best using a three man defense, as he did in the opening game of Euro 2012. He hasn't really used it again but I think that's what the players are most comfortable with.

Good points. I thought he changed formation a bit later in the tournament but I didn't see the rest of their group.

Germany would have exploited that 3-5-2 big time had he stuck with it (and if Löw concentrated on Italy before Spain) but it's one of the right formations to use against Spain. 4-4-2 gives them too much room and opportunity to get extra men in the midfield.

Without knowing serie a outside of CL it seems most of Italy's best young players are attacking ones. Pretty sweet goal finished by Borini the other night too.

Uruguay overturned Nigeria by a smaller margin than I'd have expected given how rubbish Nigeria were against Tahiti.

Tahiti were predictably torn apart by the Spanish. I wonder how they'll fare in their last match against the dirty Uruguayans?

Just seen the Spain/Tahiti highlights - I've got a feeling Villa and Torres don't get along.

They were literally stealing goals off one another. Spain could've hit 15 if both weren't ball hogs.

Villa got the shits after he played Torres in and took up a central position unmarked in front of goal only for Torres to blaze over from an impossible angle instead of passing to Villa who would've had a tap in. After I think he just thought "f**k this guy".

Has anyone else noticed ads for Tahiti appearing at the top of LU, or is it just me?

I wonder, is it linked to this week's focus on Tahiti?
