But Liverpool are the biggest cloob in the wheeerld, la. Always have been, always will be

So if Real Madrid could spend because of their size, surely LOLiverpool could have too?

Oh dear

Don't tell me you're now reduced to using mong's imagination as a source...

Well, I never said we're as big as Real Madrid  I think there's two types of big. There's big in terms of global reach, and big in terms of financial power. E.g. PSG have more financial power than Liverpool, but Liverpool have more global reach than PSG, because we're one of the biggest cloobs in the wheerld, la.

It's always required money to be successful. You think Liverpool's dominance through the 70s and 80s had nothing whatsoever to with them having significantly more resources than most other clubs?

I feel like you're just trying to disagree with me for the sake of bickering with a Liverpool fan.

Liverpool and Utd acheived their dominance through gradual development, i.e. Shankly and Fergie. Shankly came in when Liverpool were in second devision. Fergie came in when Utd were first division strugglers. Both managers worked Liverpool and Utd towards massive success. THEN the resources piled on as a flow-on effect from success.

I walk into Rebel at Bondi and I see 6 big racks of Liverpool merchandise, 1 of Chelsea, 1 small one of Utd, zero of Arsenal. Same thing at Eastgardens. We're still big alright :D

6 big racks like these don't count

Haha knew it wasn't gonna belong til BR got a mention, does a championship play off trophy count :sarcasm: Also guessing sky, if that's who that graphic was from, don't think we're a tital threat. Probably a fair call.

I don't think they bothered including BR because he's simply just a relative rookie who's never won anything, so what's the point of comparing him to Van Gaal...

Haha. I actually don't mind Rodgers, his hissy fit last season aside, he's a quality manager. There was a time when we were in the midst of Scolari and Grant where I wanted him or Steve Clarke to take over. Next season will be the true test for him. If he can get you to a Top 4 spot he deserves the praise.

No way are we a title threat at the moment. I'd be extremely happy with 4th, it's great progress. This season will be his true test, but I'm confident he can breeze through it.

Yeah he's Definitly a work in progress on all fronts mate. Last season he came out with some dumb shit in the media. Particularly with regards to Salah when we were looking at him. He and Josè seem to have a lot of respect for each other which made the whinge after you did us easier to get past for him.

Like nick said, top 4 again would be brilliant but damn it's gonna be tough. All we can do is trust that BR is the right man for us.

There's sugar daddy, and then there's Chelsea level sugar daddy (and later City). And please, you don't loathe them? 'U-N-I-T-E-D (...) Why don't City f**k off home'?

Relative, yeah Newcastle and Blackburn were just like Chelsea are now. Newcastle got all these new fans, spent money on top talent like Shearer. They soon dropped when the money ran out.

That is a song about our rivals. Not loathing. Seriously. City fans have a massive chip on there shoulder because people don't care about them and just laugh at how small time they are.

Historically untrue. United and Liverpool were always big, rich, well-supported clubs. The gap just wasn't as big, so it was actually possible during a lean period to fall down the bottom of the table or even out of the top flight.

Your point about the managers is right though. All the resources in the world don't help if you can't get the team to play as one.

The whole nature of football has changed since the days of Shankly, and even the dawn years of Fergie. Liverpool and Utd may have been relatively big, rich and well supported, but definitely not on the ridiculous scale that Chelsea suddenly became in only a couple of years because of Abramovich. They had the luxury of throwing around however much money they wanted, without the burden of FFP. Wasn't it only 2 years after Abramovich came in that they won the EPL? Conversely it was 7 long years for Utd fans after Fergie signed that you won the EPL.

So yeah, winning teams have always primarily had more money and resources, but clubs like Chelsea helped create a massive gap without the means of just being better than everyone over time.
