Highly unlikely, but never know

Of course it's highly unlikely, hence my willingness to forgo a testicle if it happens. It will take something extremely derpworthy for a player to be sent off. And even then I doubt the refs have the balls to actually send someone.
They have had ample opportunities to make a stand this season and failed on nearly every occasion.

Watching Sterlo yesterday and Mini commented on the 2003 grand final where they had such a big match in the preliminary final against the Bulldogs that they just couldn't stay up and ready for the big one. There's a good possibility that, given the rich history between the two clubs, last week drained South Sydney. Not saying it has, not even saying it means they won't win, I just see it as a reason as to why it won't be a blow out. I don't think they'll play the same football they've played so far this finals campaign, I'll be very surprised if they do.

how many days break did they get though??? this grandfinal is 9 days after souths' last game. they should be fine

It won't be a thrashing, but physically the team looks in the best shape we've been all season. Players don't seem to be carrying any major strapping. And we know for the Dogs that Ennis is out with Hodkinson and Morris really struggling on bung knees. Further the Dogs have played through three intense finals in a row with no break, so if there is a physical toll mounting up it seems to be in the dogs

Interesting point re no break for us. Injuries have definitely hurt us with Ennis out and Hodkinson very weak. Physically, no question we have a weakened squad and there is only so much you can do with hobbling halfback. Especially if Souths forwards pressure Reynolds - which would be the smart thing to do. But mentally I think our squad is pretty strong and could not be better prepared in that sense.

We're going in as the slow/injured/unexpected underdogs flying a little under the radar - which we did in Melbourne and against Manly. That's the way Des seems to bring out the best in our squad. Not to mention the players mindset will be on personal victory for vindication of 2012 (for those involved).

Souths - similar to us in 2012 have been one of the best (if not the best) team all year. Deserved favourites. Their mindset will be on smashing us out of the contest, like they did Easts....but that wasn't a GF - just like our games weren't against Manly/Melbourne. There's only so much comparisons that can be made about form.

It simply comes down to two things for mine.

1. Who executes their game plan better on the day - which includes preparation from coaches and leadership on the field/experience - which I think is where we have the advantage. Although our game plan/attack may not have the points needed. Time will tell.

2. If the game plan goes out the window - who has the team with those x-factor type players - which is where Inglis/Souths have the advantage. If we still had Barba I would argue we'd be equal in that sense.

I think both teams are well deserved to be there and should be an epic game, and in a way this GF has everything a great GF should have. The only thing that can ruin it will be the refs. ;-)

With ennis out and isaac luke out, I think this is going to be a low scoring game. Bulldogs will want to grind and have it out of play to avoid returns by inglis and souths on the other hand will not have the fluency they normally do.

I still think souths win it in the end but not a blow out. The bulldogs will have issues scoring. (barring getting back to back penalties)

Good luck to both teams and sets of fans. Hope everyone has fun at the game or at home on the tv.

And now without further delay. After a majority of my life spent in pain.. it's time.

Fiddy, just curious - what will be your reaction if you lose?

I think you guys will benefit from a loss if it does happen and come back stronger next year.

The key men for both sides are GI Slow for souths and Fat Tony Williams for the dogs.

We know that Sam Burgess and James Graham will have big games, they've proven that they lift when the time comes.

GI is crucial not just because he's a gun but because he's got grand final experience which is sorely lacking in the souths side. Unless the 2 teams playing in a GF are both equally inexperienced at playing GFs (eg cowboys v tigers 2005) history has shown that playing in a GF recently is an advantage on the big day.

Secondly, GI is not fully fit with a hip injury. And he made 2 mistakes that produced tries early in the roosters game. If he does that again the dogs will be ruthless. I tip GI to stand tall.

T. Rex has been very good this finals series and if he's on today running at souths young centres and halves then it could be a tough afternoon for the rabbits. I think he'll have a big game but not a match winning one.

Speaking of centres I reckon the bulldogs pair of Morris and Lafai are the best in the comp, they don't let many through.

Souths by 10.

If you want a bit of a candid answer. Souths fans know how to take a loss - the pain we have felt is still with a lot of us. A loss today will carry it's own special version of it but we will just carry on as we always have. Always striving for a return to the fabled history of the club.

We know (The younger generations of fans by the way that being anyone under 30-35) that while you should be proud of tradition and history as that is what a lot of us fall in love with in the first place today is a different game. What happened 40 years ago does not really mean squat.. it's almost like a totally different code of football to be completely honest.

Most people here and other people other places will mock us. Make fun of us.. kick us while we are down and we are used to that. We are used to being kicked while we are down which is why you probably see a lot of souths fans always prodding and trying to get a rise out of people because we just assume it's us vs them. Souths have a very "Us vs the world" mentality. If you read/watch many interviews with key souths figures, board members.. champions and legends of old it's all a very similar thing. It's been going on for quite a bit now. It's probably a mixutre of the fact that it really is "Us vs the world" sometimes and also to be quite honest deflection of failure. It's easy to blame others especially when there is precedent for it actually being "others" fault.

But whatever you pick yourself up off the ground and keep running. That is what South Sydney is about. No matter what people say, No matter what people do you don't stop running forward. No pain can overcome the mind

Cheers for the reply. Makes a nice change from the inane garbage that can pollute threads here.

You're a pretty loyal fan by the sounds of it. It'll make it all the sweeter if you guys do win, I guess. Good luck!

Nah no probs. As i said good luck to all the dogs fans out there. You guys will deserve a win just as much as we do. It's all perspective and both teams need the win... deserve the win for different reasons.

End of the day - haters going to hate. Rugby league is strong.
