Surely I'd know you can't have black on black. Surely I'd also know that they just did a simple offset path, rather than take the time to fit it to the shape of the logo. Its the same width all the way around it ffs. The front and back left claws are telltale signs.

What's the bet they deliberately leaked the earlier version just to gauge public opinion so that they could fix whatever people hated.

They didn't.

They officially unveiled it at a members meeting, realised everyone hated it and were backtracking it within 48 hours in the Western Weekender. They've kept the logo but ditched the "Pantiters" font.

Extremely unprofessional and left a lot of fans with a sour taste in their mouths. Plenty of fans will testify to this.

The logo looks good. Every logo has its supporters and detractors. It has links to the past and the future. And it will be a premiership winning logo before the vast majority of the other logos will.

I just read Frank Puletua designed it.

Dont ever let ex-footballers design anything in the future.

I'm a supporter of the idea of going back to the leaping Panther, the execution is very disappointing.

I reckon Sid Domic did a great job of the broncos indigi jersey this year. Proving some footballers have talents post playing career.

The new Panthers logo is not too bad. Glad that the font was changed though.

The Penrith Panthers have revealed their new logo for the 2014 NRL Season, which is a dynamic new design including a full-bodied panther as a tribute to the club’s logos of yesteryear.

The Panthers original 1964 logo was chosen after a public competition, won by graphic artist Deidre Copeland, and was kept up until the mid-1990s. Since 2000 the logo has been a head-on image of a panther snarling, with the words ‘Penrith Panthers’ written above.

With Penrith's 50-year anniversary approaching, the club believes it is time to revert the logo back to that of a leaping panther.

Panthers Group Chief Executive, Warren Wilson believes the logo is the right balance of past and present.

“It’s about understanding and respecting where we’ve come from as a club, without sacrificing our vision for the future. The Panthers are evolving and growing as a club, and we hope our fans are as excited about the 2014 NRL season as we are.”

Alongside the new logo, the Panthers have also overhauled their 2014 membership packages, with a variety of options to suit all fans.

Seating categories have been restructured, an 11 month payment plan introduced, new membership packages available, more member-only benefits, return of the supporter bay and cheaper prices make 2014 memberships better than ever.

Full season memberships start from less than $12p/month for adults and $6 p/month for children which includes entry to 11 Panthers Home Games at Centrebet Stadium, access to exclusive members-only events, 2014 Adult or Junior Membership Kit containing, hat, scarf, key ring, members bumper stickers and lanyard, all of which feature the new Panthers logo.

For truly dedicated Panthers fans, the new “Ultimate Membership” option includes best available seating, a signed (or unsigned) 2014 Panthers Jersey, Official Photo with the entire team, an evening with the Panthers coaching team, your name on your seat, as well as exclusive BBQ occasion with the Panthers, in addition to all the other member benefits.

In favour of the Panthers - they are on the right track going back to the leaping Panther. It's what the fans want and looking at the previous logos it's probably the best thing they could do.

Another good thing they did was actually listen to their members when they pointed out they'd f**ked up royally. OK, so they should have engaged the fans and gotten supporter feedback BEFORE they released a design in the way the Tigers did with their jersey's this season. But they DID listen to the fans and re-design the Panther and the font of the writing.

OK, so it's not an instant hit with everyone, but the gripes are fairly minor in the Grand scheme of things and the logo is a vast improvement on what was originally released.

If they adjust it subtly before next season (using GAZ's comments as a base) I reckon they can improve it further and get it as close to perfect as possible
