Who cares if someone can write? In 10 years time it will be an obsolete skill to have. Everyone will be communicating via a combination of text message speak and gangsta signals.

I've been limbering up my fingers in anticipation.

Well mate, I am actually published (trade journal), and I write fiction as a hobby (unpublished, but with a few unpaid 'credits'). I also get paid to write in my job, so I know a little bit about writing.

I too cringe at plenty of sports writing, even by sports 'journos' in major newspapers. As for this piece, in hindsight a couple of things pop out at me as weak - mostly stylistic bits like 'individual brilliance' to start successive paragraphs, 'impressive' and 'impressed' in the same sentence, and so on. But I was writing to a deadline and didn't do the majority of it until the last minute. You should have seen it before my final edit. Ugly.

Anyway, plenty of laymen think I am a brilliant writer (they're wrong) but you're the first person ever to outright say I have poor writing skills (you're probably wrong too).

As for structure coming 'naturally' to you, this isn't fiction you deadshit. It's a preview, and I was stuck with the format I was given.

Anyway, it's easy to criticise without providing any fixes. You sound like just another jealous loser that wishes he had done more with his life. It's impossible to not sound like a wanker when you're writing about something on which every merkin has an opinion. Just as you'll sound like a wanker when you write next year's preview. androtrop.

Sounds like we might have more in common than I would have thought.

In terms of everyday communication, maybe; but I think writing as an 'art form' will still have a place in the brave new world.

Same. I'm working on a fantasy series but this weekend I'm gonna start to develop a sci-fi idea I've recently come up with. The Pie-in-the-Sky hope would be a screenplay that actually went somewhere. It's a pretty f**king rad idea, if I do say so myself.

For people with brains, sure. Gary is right in relation to the vast majority of the population, however, especially in relation to gang signs.

Mine's a romance with vampires that look cool and never smile, and have tattoos and Facebook.

Also, Thundercats slashfic. I just have a few copyright issues to sort through but it's a f**ken winner.

It's not a literary work, it's a mass market piece.

Are you one of those snobs that thinks Stephen King is a shit writer because he's popular?

Well, you were talking it up as a literary piece by quoting examples of your published works and writing experience..

'Literary' is a quality of fiction concerned with showing how much of a 'literature wanker' the author is.

My paid experience is in writing non-fiction that is both informative and easy to read (and remember). The fiction I write in my spare time is also far from 'literary'. My target audience is uneducated slobs like yourself, though clearly you aren't satisfied with this one.

I'll try and do better next time.

Yep, espresso or from a nifty (and cheap) device called an Aeropress (fancy plunger, but very clean taste).

Plunger? May as well drink instant. I had a proper machine for over 7 years. Got sick of the coffee grounds everywhere. Recently purchased a Delonghi Nespresso. The Roma blend for mine is as good as anything I have tasted domestically.

That George Clooney knows his shit.
