I have no problem with them having high prices at the beginning and then gradually reducing them as the game draws nearer. It is then up to the individual fans as to how important the game is and how much they are willing to pay.

If you want first pick of the seats, guaranteeing you entry, pay the top price. 1 month out, prices drop by say 20%. Again, anyone who has not bought tickets can choose to buy now, if they are happy with the price. 2 weeks out, prices drop again. 1 week out, prices drop again.

You can wait to pick up the bargains closer to the game, but you run the risk of missing out or getting ordinary seats. Your choice...

Except as this year is proving, its a one trick pony, people aren't going to bother getting tickets early anymore and gamble on getting them late.

Right up until 2014, Suncorp would sell out within an hour, now they are basically giving them away for free in the week before the game.

It's a dumb cash grab from a sport that doesn't need the money that badly.

Blame Paul Kind, setting the pricing was his job, it was also his job to grow non broadcast revenues, hence the higher prices. I think prices for tickets to all games this year has been a little haphazard, no Head of Commercial and things aren't getting the attention they should be.

Origin is an 'event' now like the GF and people have to start getting use to it. However, an event should sell out, so anything less is a failure of the pricing model and has to be adjusted for next year. But I dont think a return to games being sold out in first ten mins is healthy either, it means they were far too cheap. Happy medium should be selling out a week or two before the game imo. But they cant continue this price reduction when it becomes evident they cant move them at that price and screwing over people who booked early, people aren't stupid and will hold out until they reduce prices. With the increased advertising expenditure trying to move tickets it probably doesn't end up more cost effective than having tickets a bit cheaper to begin with. But don't for a min believe the telegraph rubbish about increasing prices to subsidise Melbourne ticket prices, the NRL get paid millions to play the game in Melbourne, thats why its there, they dont need to subsidise anything.

True heartlands should have Origin as a sell-out no matter the price. Empty seats at Origin is embarrassing for the game. It seems even Origin can't escape the excuses to not attend rugby league despite being the 'pinnacle'. The pinnacle should sell out no matter what if is truly is that.

But Brisbane has less than half the population of Sydney. So on a per capita basis, wouldn't Brisbane have a superior Origin crowd to Sydney?

a wanky boast is a wanky boast
Qlders= wankers :lol:

Trying to re-define terms, ay? Talk about dodging the facts. You guys never gave a stuff about the 'per capita basis'. Since the redeveloped Suncorp started hosted Origin in 2003, it has been all about QLDers bagging out ANZ Stadium's crowds and Brisbane supposedly being able to get the same, if not larger crowds than ANZ Stadium had they also had an 80k+ seat stadium up there, which is the biggest the load of crap since Greg Inglis believed that Bowraville was located in QLD.

Too true

We sellout suncorp in 20 minutes
We'd sellout ANZ in an hour

Home of Origin
Yeah.. sure guys

What makes things more embarrassing is....Suncorp only hosts one game this year:lol:

It still might not be a failure at all. In our opinions, these games have to sell out. In the NRL's eyes, their objective is to maximise profit (obviously). So if the game doesn't sell out, and higher prices has led to decreased demand but also higher revenue, they most likely won't give too much of a stuff. I do agree with you though, these games do need to sell out

So you think people should pay ridiculous prices to attend a game of footy no matter what? If there are empty seats blame the NRL for being greedy NOT pple trying to look after their families.

Revenue wouldn't be the sole motivation for the NRL, it's hard to brand origin as 'Australian sports greatest rivalry' if the games aren't even a sell out.

Forget about Melbourne.

The 'home of Origin' (as QLDers have us to believe) with only a 52,500 capacity is struggling to sell-out Origin. And yet when Suncorp was redeveloped, morons of yours and broncos2010 ilk had us believe that Suncorp would still sell-out if it had the capacity of ANZ Stadium.

Ha we are outselling ANZ at the moment with higher pricers and less than half the population. Around in circles we go. DUMB!

With the correct pricing, we did sell out Suncorp in minutes, something ANZ has never achieved for Origin.

Got excited for a second because I thought $50 is a pretty good deal for 2 seats until I saw the seats.

613 Row 1 Up in the sky and in the corner.

Get stuffed, even for $50 I'd rather just watch it on TV.

Yeah pretty poorly, but they need to sell them. I am waiting to see if they will put some down in lower bowl because there are heaps still available downstairs.

People have paid $250 for seats on the corners that were category and $80 a pop in 2012.

326, 317, 305, 338.

See attached for Suncorp Origin update.

Black is sold, some held for maroon memberships.
Maroon is unsure - 600s probably unsold.
725 & 726 is Blatchy Blues.
526 - 530 is 'Blue Zone'.

Where no marking is what is available.
