All things aside, it's pretty geniused that a try between the posts is effectively worth almost double a try on the sideline. A try under the post is already worth 2 more points since players get an easy shot at goal.
Makes for some fun moments trying to get the ball in closer

I don't hate the bonus point try, but I'm not for it either. It does seem unnecessary. I know the idea for the most part is that it a) reduces the chance of a draw and b) when a team is down towards the end they have a last ditch shot at winning.

Also it motivates the defending team to not just give up on a line break to conserve energy, which has been an issue in similar formats previously.

It does, Gardner put some good footwork to finish in the bonus zone.

Well done to the Sharks... The Warriors didn't deserve to play in the Semis.

Thanks mate, we've played 4 good games & deserve our place in the semis.

Can't quite understand why we are playing a team in our own pool in the semis, that should be a final if both teams are good enough.

I can only assume it is done that way to maximise rest and lower risk of injury, as crossing over would have the Roosters in this situation play 3 games in 3 hours while the earlier pools are looking at a 3 games in 4 hours at worst and 3 games in 6 hours at best.
Ideally it should cross over but there should probably be more filler games or save it for a long weekend and spread it over 3 days to not be too demanding.

Can we have a live update thread or can someone who has vision do it it this thread ... I'm dependent of the lagging and fragmented updates from here and on the NRL blog. ::(

Every teams fans are notorious for that.

You called Warriors' fans (allegedly) leaving when the Warriors were knocked out 'fair-weather fans'. No idea what you were thinking with that one. But whatever they are, they're certainly more committed to the Warriors than most Roosters fans seem to be to the Roosters.

Good point Jag.

They got the women games in between too, so they have taken the fatigue factor into account.

People seem more excited about the Warriors losing then most Warriors fans seem disappointed about the loss. Some people have some serious issues.

Also, a few calls went the Sharks' way in that game. Notice how Warriors fans aren't crying conspiracy, but just accepting that that's just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

I hope the Sharks or the Eels win it from here. Will read about it in tomorrow's papers.

My thoughts exactly.....in one of the games, there was a comical situation where one of the teams needed a bonus point try to draw or win the game. This defending team had guys defending out wide. Wouldn't you just jam every defender within the bonus point area?

Yeah, especially the way that kickers are struggling with the drop goals.

The novelty has worn off

I would have preferred the Warriors to win.
But I could not blame all the fans but $ouff$ fans for leaving, they are playing well, but just like the NRL last year they are getting a huge leg up.

Cowboys V Souths I think. I remember the commentators saying "if that had been Taumalolo crashing onto that it was try time".

We need the bonus point to get odd number scores - imagine teams going for field goals.

Maybe the bonus zone should be 1m in either corner? Encourage throwing the ball out.

Good point.

Maybe you just factor draws in and just have golden point in the finals. Or seriously, golden try- it wouldn't be that disruptive to the schedule. You could expect a try within minutes.

If they are going to have tries worth more it should be based on the skill of the try, not where its scored. Extra point for tries scored from own half or for tries scored from four passes or more. Something like that.
