2015 WORLD CUP FINAL: Australia v New Zealand at MCG Sunday 29th March 2015

We fought back to a place where we were ok and then fell apart

High quality bowling and fielding from Aust - wicket seems a bit two paced, but our dismissals all the way through were poor - a result of pressure more than great deliveries - most of the good balls were unrewarded...

250 was on the cards. Faulkners bowling in the powerplay was the turning point in the innings.

As I said, Boult/Southee/Henry are going to have to skittle Australias top order in the first 15 overs if NZ are any chance. McCullum is a quintessential choker though. After that close call in his first ball, I'd thought he'd learn his lesson, just try and settle in for at least a few overs before going for the tonk. You dont get a second chance in a final and you cant afford to be reckless. His wicket really rattled the Kiwis and put the rest of the batsmen under so much pressure.

Kiwis shouldn't have come this far. Flattered by the small boundaries and the rain saved them against SA.

Aust v SA would have been a much better and more fitting final.

Disagree with those who say that NZ don't deserve to be here. They've beaten everyone in front of them which is all you can ever ask for in sport.

Nervous about the run chase, they've shown that they can rattle us in the pool game and they've got the runs on the board. They snare a few quick early wickets they're well in it.

Yeah, pretty much sums it up - McCullum was a kick in the guts, Guptill's horrific, as were most of the rest

TBH I think the occasion got to them - which was always a possibility.

They'll have a real crack with the ball, but almost certainly not enough runs - no scoreboard pressure here

No pressure alright. Only need to score at less than 4 an over. Australia dont need to do anything stupid, Maxwell doesnt need to play any of those fancy reverse sweeps, keep wickets in hand...that's what is required

This.

1. No matter the result they are deserved finalists.
2. The grounds had nothing to do with today.

I wasn't very confident against SA, and was less confident today, but to say we don't deserve to be here is ridiculous.

This cup was always going to come down to SA, Australia, NZ. Fact is SA lost 3 out of 6 games against top 8 teams without even playing Australia. If NZ lose they'll have the same W/L record as Australia and a 1-1 head to head, it's just unfortunate for them the 1 win isn't the 1 that really counts.

Every dismissal would have been out on every other ground in the world. No excuses about the ground.

It was cringeworthy when Taylor was babbling on about the pitch being dissected by light. is this the first day/night game these teams have ever played? Batted poorly against quality bowling - simple as that.

The rain cruelled South Africa to an extent, but still it was no easy task chasing down 298 off 43 overs ( equivalent of chasing 347 off 50 overs) against Morkel/Steyn/Philander.

McCullums quick 59 off 26 got their run rate off to a strong start and that was vital in the end

He is, but to be fair Southee's bat jammed and he was back if it hadn't

Nonetheless, damage done earlier

True, but much like with his run out of Dhoni, the batsman was a little casual because they probably didn't see the threat there. I think if Southee really pushed he would have made it back, jammed bat or not.

Indeed, the best result was RSA and India NOT making it, and England not making the cut.

The hosts share the final and deserve it.

I joke about #MCGtobig....... but really NZ got here fair and square, the saffs choked, the Indians failed, so here we are..

It ain't over either.

It's not as though they were all caught on the boundary.

They deserved to be there but the ground, or really the pitch, have everything to do with today and that is because the Kiwis have struggled with the extra bounce. Australia struggled with the seam at Eden Park given they had played no warm up games in NZ and NZ have suffered the same. It will be interesting to see how they bowl and if they adjust to the extra bounce early...

hell, we top edged a couple of sixes #MCGsobig

Bottom line is, we are much better than this - not playing a game in Aust was an issue, but not because of the size of the ground, that remains a joke
