2016 4 Nation stadiums

Tartan time

Our spies tell us that Scotland is looking to play England at Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium in the Four Nations next year. Scotstoun is the home of the rugby union Pro12 side Glasgow Warriors and holds 10,000 fans. The Bravehearts want to make it a hostile ground for the English, boosting their own chances, and help grow rugby league in the north at the same time.

Premier League produce

Apart from Glasgow, there is also talk that the Four Nations will be played at a Premier League venue next year. Old Trafford is the obvious choice, as the destination of the Super League grand final, but we understand the home of Manchester United isn’t on the table. The likes of Etihad and St James’ Park, as well other top football grounds, could emerge as potential venues for the international competition involving England, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand.

Id love for Scotland to play Australia at Pittodrie.I watched Scotland play Nigeria in football there in 2002 and I've never been so cold, would be a massive advantage for Scotland.

Scotland must play in Aberdeen, it's the only place where there is any domestic activity.

St James in Newcastle would be good for Scotland/England.

Aus/NZ in London makes the most sense.

St James' Park is over the top. Kingston Park on the other hand is a bit too small. But then again, how many could the England-Scotland match draw anyway, no matter where it's played? I'd go with something like this:

Scotland vs Aus (Aberdeen)
Scotland vs NZ (Glasgow)

England vs Scotland (Langtree Park)
England vs Aus (Etihad)
England vs NZ (Elland Rd) or why not even Bramall Lane in Sheffield for one of these? (32k)

Aus vs NZ (London, 15-25k seater).

Final: Old Trafford

I'm going to be in the UK from 1st of November till the 12th of december next year. Hadn't even thought about the 4 nations, pretty cool that I can go and watch some of it.

Should the Olympic Stadium become a mainstay for the English team, akin to some sort of 'national stadium'? Whilst the grounds doesn't seem like a proper 'rugby' ground, if this weeks game is a sell out, could be good to build upon?

I think the hardest problem for deciding venues will be where Scotland plays. Hopefully 2/3 games are in Scotland so they get some sort of promotion/benefit for local game there.

How about Loftus Road for London AUS v NZ game? Both played there in 2004 Tri Nations and drew just under 17,000to ground that holds 18,500.

It may be unpopular but I reckon the Aus V NZ game should be the Perth game.Make the Aussies/kiwis bash each other, jump on a plane and play England with only a week to acclimatise.Got to give the hosts every advantage to make it a successful tournament.

Its been done in the past right? Back in the Tri-Nations days?

I'm not against it, and I'm confident someone else will be more knowledgeable, but who gets profit from the 4 Nations? The hosting nation? If so, I think staging game in England is best simply to boost their bottom line and hopefully continue promoting the game in London.

I remember in 05 the first Aus vs NZ game was held in Sydney, the second in Auckland and then they both went to the UK and played Britain on and off over the following 4 weeks.

It wasn't an ideal set up because of the travel and also Britain didn't get any rest between matches unlike Australia and NZ. Although I think they played France on the off weeks.

In 09 I think, Australia and NZ opened the tournament against each other in a small stadium in London. Sold out crowd too. Was a success.

The profits of the 4 nations are split between the ARLC, NZRL and RFL. The 4th nation receives a participation fee.

Surely it's not too late to replace Scotland.

I believe we can save face in a big way by removing them now and bringing Wales in to take their place. Far dodgier things have been done than this. Do it and do it fast! Like a band-aid.

The scotland team plus heritages are far better that wales with their heritages....

As part of the overhaul of the eligibility laws i believe a rule will be brought in that states that heritage players must play for their heritage country in the proceding qualifying comp to qualify for them in the major comps...fed cup & RLWC..

So they have to help the qualify instead of rocking up every 4 years

Does that lock you up until after the world cup 'spud? I.e. We won't see Solomone Kata play for Tonga in a world cup qualifier only to switch to the NZ for the cup itself?

Why do Scotland get two home games

Kingston Park????? 10,200 capacity and artificial turf.

Why would you play the biggest game outside of the final at an 18,000 seater ground?

Have Everton ever shown any interest in hosting a RL match?
