This game has turned into a total joke. So who's the fullback for the all stars? Jordan Kahu? Gimme a break

I love how Bennett has come out in the media putting pressure on the NRL to guarantee the future of this game after he picked Lachlan Maranta as the superstar from his club and then picked Jordan Kahu as his replacement when Maranta pulled out.

Gimme a break Wayne!

This idea was floated on another forum:

Copy the NFL 'Pro Bowl' concept - have the All-Stars game around GF time, and at a different venue.

e.g. Have it the Friday night BEFORE the GF, at Suncorp. The Indigenous game is attended by a different crowd (mob) than the GF crowd.

I just hope the Indigenous boys pump the sad excuse for a team Bennett has picked. It sucked to begin with and has gotten worse with every joke injury.

Kahu is the likely fullback now. The Indigenous guys have 5 guys I would take at fullback before him in Inglis, Roberts, Barba, Wighton and Gagai. From a grand final winning team the coach picks players that would be fringe first graders at any club as his All stars. He puts his Broncos first and for that reason should have no say over the team selection.

NSW Aboriginal knock out is played over the October long weekend.
The All Stars would be a flop crowd wise if it was played then.

I'm so glad to be watching all the Star players in an All Stars game...

Especially the ones that have pulled out for whatever reason, but then are playing trials this weekend (Farah and Thurston to name a couple).

Either the NRL needs to get rid of this game, change the concept, or punish players for pulling out.

Ray Thompson out 12-14 weeks minimum because of an injury at training for this game. That is why this is a useless joke of a game. The players already play too much in a season that goes too long from day 1 of preseason to the last rep footy after grand final day.

Kill it. Nobody cares. Then kill city country and bury the games in the same ditch.

Get a clue BM. Training injuries happen everywhere you numpty. If he wasn't training for this, he'd have been playing last night in Townsville or training for World Club Series - he's obviously been at risk for this injury for it to have happened.

Fool.

Despite constantly being told no one bothers with the all stars it still pulled in a decent crowd on the GC last year and according to the info found on this site, it rated over 700k combined metro and regional audiences. Interesting to note that the regional were higher then the metro ratings. Before the cancelled year the game was a sellout and had viewerships of over 1.3m. Maybe if we go away from boring Bennett picked teams and went back to the fan vote interest from neutral fans will rise again. Also, alot of people want the all stars dropped in favour of focusing on the 9s, but the 9s had both disappointing crowds and tv figures. An average of 28000 a day crowds was a big drop on previous years, while tv ratings of 166k average is below the average an nrl game gets, despite the fact that all 16 teams were involved

What all this tells you is that there is a strong market for Rugby League in February. I'd like to see a meaningful pre-season competition return, with bonus premiership points as the prize for winner and runner up.

If their was a strong market for February football, then why was the auckland 9s a disappointment in ratings and crowds. Its a fairly meaningful comp, with huge prize money up for grabs, and has rules in place to play attractive football yet ratings are down.

9's is halfway between touch footy and RL. Put it on FTA and it'll do well.

Still I'd sooner see it replaced by a pre-season comp, 13 a side, 20 minute quarters, 4 competition points for the winner, 2 for the runner up.

The game is no more likely to injure players than trials would. Most teams are naming full strength squads for them. The huge bench means that most players get smaller minutes like a trial aswell.

The only joke here is that this is marketed as an 'All Star' game and we will be watching a number of fringe first graders run around. Surely a star player should be a permanent fixture in their club side at the very least.
