2016 Crowd Watch

just over 12k the commentators just said. Does sound a little louder than that too. I give them that too

For the actual crowd, its alright for a Thursday night game. Up from the 9,600 at Kogarah last Thursday. But for a game that's between Souths and the Dragons, it is poor. Shouldn't have been on a Thursday night.

I work around the corner and have travelled to NZ this year to watch us play. But... ANZ f**king sucks. Not worth hanging round after work to have a few mid strength beers and go, free tickets or not.

indeed. some people like to have a beer and watch the footy. you might understand when you grow up.

and lol at "supporting your team" at anz. could probably support them just as well from home.

I agree. That's cool and all, but it shouldn't be the main reason you don't go to watch the footy yet alone watch your own team play

Only six years of crap crowds ahead. Hohum.

Can't blame anyone for not wanting to go out on at Thursday night for a game not kicking off until 8pm in an empty stadium devoid of atmosphere.

Going to watch your team is obviously the main reason but offering fully grown adults full strength beer, good watering holes and decent places to eat close to the ground certainly helps. Those things make what we call a social event, it is a concept lost on a lot of members here.

Broncos/Cowboys sold out no surprise there, compare to the thousands of empty seats for 100+ year rivalries for Souths/Dragons & Souths/Roosters. The only rivalry game that consistently get excellent crowds no matter what.

Mate. This is a 26k capacity compared to an 80k capacity... Of course Sydney is what? 30 times the size of Townsville? Hopefully the Cowboys can get a new stadium and get even bigger numbers for this new exciting rivalry

Exactly. Watch Timmah jump up and down about this 'not being relevant'. Welcome to 2016, Australians like a beer, and we don't like mid strength rubbish for full strength prices! I hate ANZ. At least with all other grounds I can get a beer while I watch the game (and for the record I only have 2 beers- never have any more as I like to watch the game)

Thursday could actually work ok, if planned out properly and promoted, with the right games at suitable venues,

Problem is ch 9 want rivalry games on, which are our showpiece events, they shouldnt be on thursday night..

Souths/Roosters & Souths/Dragons had decades to build up excellent crowds yet fall short to Broncos/Cowboys consistently. Both of those games can have the Sunday afternoon slot yet still won't get near Cowboys/Broncos regularly.

Do yo think perhaps having no local competition helps these sides? How often do Broncos play on week nights? What else is there to do in Townsville on a Friday night in near winter?
