2016 Draw

Talk about rorted, the hardest draw of the lot. Oh well time to prove the doubtors wrong....

St George Illawarra DragonsPlay twice: Storm, Sharks, Roosters, Broncos, Knights, Titans, Rabbitohs, Cowboys, Bulldogs.
Play once: Panthers, Warriors, Raiders, Sea Eagles, Tigers, Eels.
Starting point: The Dragons kick off the season with back-to-back away games, first in Melbourne against the Storm on Monday night to round out the opening week of footy and then against rivals Cronulla at Shark Park the following Sunday. A blockbuster against the Rabbitohs at the SCG will take place in Round 3, before Trent Merrin and the Panthers visit for the Red V's first game at WIN Stadium in Round 4.
Tough run: The Red V have arguably the toughest draw in the NRL in 2016, with home and away games against seven of last year's top eight teams. At the start of April they have back-to-back games in Queensland against last year's grand finalists North Queensland and Brisbane, then face reigning minor premiers the Roosters a fortnight later.
Show-stoppers: The local derby with the Cronulla Sharks will resume in Round 2 at Shark Park, with the second clash between the sides taking place in the run home to the finals in Round 23 at Jubilee Oval. There's no shortage of big games otherwise, with the clash with Souths at the SCG on March 20 sure to be a highlight. A run of three home games from Round 12 to 15 against the Cowboys, Bulldogs and Storm – two at WIN Stadium and one at ANZ – should keep the crowds turning up during the Origin period.
Origin impact: (Byes: Rd 13, Rd 18.) The Origin period will be kind to St George Illawarra, with a couple of big scalps up for the taking. The Dragons will avoid Johnathan Thurston when they face the Cowboys in Round 12 ahead of State of Origin I, and then will get to play a Melbourne Storm side minus Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith in Round 15. The Dragons' byes coming in Round 13 and 18.

Another tough draw next year. play the top 4 twice and 7 of the top 8 twice.. But we made the 8 this year with a similarly tough draw, so expect no less with an improved roster.

Just noticed no Canberra in Canberra in 2016. Apparently in the past teams are asked to request games they want at home, and we were first choice. Seems that since the Curse has been broken they don't want to play us anymore

Thu: 3
Frid: 1 game only !!!
Sat: 6
Sund: 6
Mon: 4

Meanwhile, the Broncos get 8 x Friday night games and ZERO Monday night games.

Once again we get our byes through the origin period too, despite likely having minimal representation. So instead of taking on depleted, fatigued teams with a relatively full strength side we will be having a rest right when we don't need it.

I've never actually complained about a draw before but no doubt we've gotten a raw deal here.

Only four NRL games in Wollongong next year. Two of them are during the origin period. Same as this year. Its like they are trying to make it harder and harder for me to follow the game.

18 rounds before we get a Friday night game ( rnd 19 ) and 4 Monday night games while Broncos get 8 Friday nights and not a single Monday night.
Surely we have to complain. That's a terrible draw for a team with such a large following. I strongly believe the draw this year had a lot to do with our sudden turnaround in form. All those Monday nights and byes with long breaks between games killed our momentum dead.

Todd Greenburg is a .... He ...... Us over this season with 5 Monday night games and now this .......it.

We have just been officially announced on fox sports as the worst draw by far!

There needs to be an investigation as why Todd Greenburg a Bulldog keeps giving us a tough draw..He pinched the Morris Brothers and now this crap.

He has been in charge of the draw for 2 years now and both times we received the toughest draw by far.

The NRL are obsessed with "Block Busters" so we are popular hence we have to play the other Block Buster teams ie made for TV..ie all the good teams are the Block Buster games, meanwhile they have looked after the Tigers and Titans who will struggle with piss weak easy draws..

Like I said There needs to be an investigation!!

I like to put shit on Toddy as much as the next bloke, but surely by now people realise that the detail of the draw in terms of days/times games are played is primarily driven by the TV networks. Should change with the next TV deal but for now it's Nein that keep giving the Broncs Friday night games.
If it happens after 2018 (I think that's when the new TV deal will kick in) then yes it's on the NRL.

Pretty sure we play both the Cowboys and Storm without their origin players in Wollongong.

Well well why doesn't the Donkeys draw surprise me...Ive been harping on about this for years....un bloody believable...8 Fri nite games and NO Mon games...the draw is obviously not drawn out of a hat, but purely based on crowd attendance ...its all about the money folks....yet again the one team town gets a huge advantage ...makes you sick really

Dragons 2016 Schedule Announced

Fri 27th November, 03:00PM A A

The NRL have released the 2016 Telstra Premiership schedule on Friday, which sees the St George Illawarra Dragons open the season against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park, Melbourne on Monday, March 7.
The Dragons first home match of the season will see us host the South Sydney Rabbitohs in a Round 3 blockbuster fixture at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday, March 20.
This Sunday afternoon feature game (4.00pm) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dragons achieving the world-record 11 consecutive Premierships between 1956 and 1966, one of the most significant achievements in the history of Australian sport.

“All the staff and players have been just as eager as our Red V Members and fans to get a look at what our draw looks like for 2016,” said Dragons Head Coach Paul McGregor.
“Today’s release provides us with the opportunity to get a little more specific with our planning and the staff are on it straight away, particularly given all the travel at the front end of the season”.
“With respect to our draw, coaches are never going to be totally happy with things like turn-around times and placement of Bye Rounds amongst other things, but I understand that there are many variables that need to be taken into consideration and respect that the process is complex and that those involved are working to get the best outcomes all round.
“I am really excited about the season ahead as I am sure our Red V Members and fans are too and we are looking forward to having that passionate Dragons support wherever we play in 2016.”
The 2016 schedule features key Dragons home fixtures as some of the biggest events on the NRL calendar once again, including:

  • The traditional ANZAC Day clash against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park in Round 8
  • A Public Holiday blockbuster against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park in Round 14 on the Queens Birthday long weekend
  • Two home games against both defending Premiers the North Queensland Cowboys and Grand Finalists the Brisbane Broncos at WIN Stadium, Wollongong in Rounds 12 and 22 respectively
  • The local derby home game against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah in Round 23
The Dragons will play four home games at WIN Stadium, Wollongong:

  • Round 4 v Penrith Panthers on Sunday afternoon, March 27 (4.00pm)
  • Round 12 v North Queensland Cowboys on Saturday night, May 28 (7.30pm)
  • Round 15 v Melbourne Storm on Saturday night , June 18 (7.30pm)
  • Round 22 v Brisbane Broncos on the weekend of August 5- 8
The Dragons four home games at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah are:

  • Round 10 v Canberra Raiders on Thursday night, May 12 (7.50pm)
  • Round 19 v Gold Coast Titans on Friday night, July 15 (7.50pm)
  • Round 23 v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks on the weekend of August 11-15
  • Round 26 v Newcastle Knights on the weekend of September 1-4
The Dragons continue to support the Whole of Game Strategy, Right Game Right Venue, which was implemented in 2014 to provide a platform for economic enhancement and growth capability at the Club.

The Dragons will play four home games at major Sydney venues under the Right Game Right Venue strategy in 2016, which are:

  • Round 3 v South Sydney Rabbitohs at Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday afternoon, March 20 (4.00pm)
  • Round 8 v Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium, Moore Park on Anzac Day Monday, April 25 (4.00pm)
  • Round 14 v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Monday afternoon, June 13 (4.00pm)
  • Round 20 v Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Sunday afternoon, July 24 (4.00pm)
This strategy also provides for specific Red V Member packages to receive access to attend reciprocal away games at ANZ Stadium in 2016 against the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs

The NRL and Broadcast Partners Channel 9 and Fox Sports have agreed that the specific scheduling for the final six rounds of the 2016 season will be announced later in the season.

3 out of 4 of the sides we play in Wollongong will bring minimal away team fans.

If you were ever going to create an argument for not playing in Wollongong this would be the way to do it: reduce crowds by not having away sides help fill the stadium and then claim it is no longer viable to play at the smaller venues as they are not drawing crowds.

The only stand out derby in kogarah is the sharks. And then you have Canberra (surely even this game could move to Wollongong. Massive ex canberra residents there) the gold coast (can't even draw a crowd at home) and Newcastle (nice to see browny return but who else will they bring?)

And ANZ, Allianz and the SCG gets the dogs, tigers, roosters and souths. All of whom should draw excellent away (and I use the term loosely) support.

f**k the right venue policy. It becomes self fulfilling to move away from our traditional grounds when you allocate games this way.

6 out of 8 home games in Wollongong and Kogarah are out of Sydney teams..They have taken all good rivalries away from fans and plonked them in the big hard to fill stadiums..

Doust must take the blame for this stuff up..we never get to play Souths,Dogs,Tigers or Roosters at our traditional home bases..Giving our main opponents a massive advantage!

The main reason I go to watch is to enjoy the rivalry between the other Sydney teams..

Instead we have Canberra on a Thursday night..

They only gave us sharks at Kogarah cos channel 9 requested that game for Sunday TV game..The rest of the games are all out of Sydney teams...Doust sold off our rivalries the mongrel!
