Canberra are an actual chance at the top 2 all of a sudden. IF we win our final 3 (which on current form is possible) and IF the Sharks drop 2 of their last 3 (which on current form is possible - especially given one of those games is against the Storm) - we could sneak into the top 2.

I'm well aware that is a longshot, but the fact it's even a slightly reasonable possibility at this stage in the season is the greatest feeling I've had as a Raiders fan in decades.

It also just makes me think about the ridiculous points we dropped early in the year. FPN single-handedly cost us the Titans game, and then that debacle in golden point against the Dragons (oh and for that matter the refereeing debacle in golden point against the Panthers), and the freaking draw against the KNIGHTS!

and then that debacle in golden point against the Dragons

I think the Dragons loss was worth it just for the change it made to Jack Wighton. He was deplorable up to that point and his miracle-ball seemed to flick a switch that’s made him one of the form fullbacks of the comp. Hard to believe we've only lost 1 game since then.

He has been fantastic ever since. That brainfade last night with the Storm 40/20 might give him some more motivation as well

If's even better than that.

If we drop 2 & if you win 2 of 3, you will pass us on for / against.

Going back and looking at these pre-season picks is interesting.

Virtually everyone had the Roosters in the 8, most had them in the 4.

Nobody gave the Titans a snowballs.

Everyone was right about the Knights though!

It feels like one of the closer top 8s in some time. I really think everyone in the top 8 has a shot of winning it. Obviously certain teams are favoured but no like recent years. It's going to be a fantastic final series.

Edit: hopefully this flow onto future years. Not only is the top quite competitive but some of the bottom teams like souths and roosters have shown that they could turn things around quickly. Next year outside of the knights and maybe dragons I could see almost anyone at or near the top of the ladder.

tbh i have cronulla dropping the roosters and storm game and you guys winning all 3 so definitely a chance

And if Penrith had won half of the narrow losses they would be top 4. The comp is just that tight!

The Roosters are capable of playing like a top 4 team now that they've got their full squad back. They are a massive danger game for anyone. I'm quite glad the Sharks have to go through them.

The Bunnies to a lesser extent may just click on the run home too. Although I'm guessing that they'll fall apart again at the first sign of trouble in any given game.

Raiders
Cowboys
Penrith
Cronulla
Melbourne
Souths
Dragons
Roosters
Manly
Canterbury
Eels
Knights
Tigers
Titans
Raiders tip is looking good.

Top 8 teams wont be too far off, bar Souths. Order will be very different

Roosters, Manly missing the 8 looking good.

I didn't think the Tigers had the forward depth, but they've done ok. Obviously Titans have been a lot better than most expected.

Far from the worst I've done though

A complete lottery. No doubt it will be way off

Rabbits, Eels, Roosters, Panthers all a big chance of the top 8. Raiders could very well be an outside chance of a top 4 spot if they fix their edge defence.

Both sides have benefitted immensely from mid-season signings. Elijah Taylor has provided the starch to the Tigers pack, and the Titans are almost a different team to that from Round 1.

(oh and for that matter the refereeing debacle in golden point against the Panthers),
The Panthers have only played one golden point game this year, against the Warriors a couple of weeks back.

I'm sure every supporter of every team could name a decision that cost their side points. You end up where you deserve. It all comes out in the wash.

Titans and Tigers obviously surprised everyone. Don't know why I rated the Knights so highly. Dogs seem to do enough every year somehow.

of the 4 recent posters to look at their predictions:

titans average estimated position: 14th
Titans current position: 8th

up 6 place

Bulldogs average estimated position: 12th
Bulldogs current position: 4th

up 8 places

the bulldogs estimated pick around 10-13 was pretty common with experts too

they seem to be the most disappointing surprise packet ever lol

Dogs are just like the Storm. Many experts and posters on here (including myself) tip them to slide or miss the 8 every year but they just know how to get the job done and make the 8. Won't be surprised if they're two of the final 4 left come the last week of September.
