"Justin Morgan is coming onboard as a new assistant coach after finishing his commitments this season as defensive coach at the Melbourne Storm"

Can't do any worse than Iro. Surely?

I was hoping Morgan was going to get the job before Elliot got appointed after all the other good ones that had been mentioned either turned out to be rumour or faded away.

I remember there was a lot of talk about him at the time. I think he withdrew from the interview process unless I'm thinking of someone else?

So THATS what Jim Doyle has been doing in Melbourne the past couple of months... :sarcasm:

Happy with it, if he's our new defensive coach. Needed a change. A new "NRL strength, power and rehab manager" as well - hard to judge this, but hopefully it can help us avoid the injury tolls of the past. Manly (with the exception of this year) haven't had too many sustained bad periods of injury... but no idea how long this guy has been there, and to what extent his work has made a difference - he presumably wasn't the head of dept at Manly. No idea about Iro in a recruitment/development role..

Like the appointment of Morgan. Finally someone who will create competition for the head coach spot and keep cappy on his toes.

Question for the more learned.. Who are Dan Floyd and Andrew Webster? Footy operations manager and assistant coach respectively, does anyone know any background on them?

Iro as recruitment worries me. Better if he had gone and we appointed someone new.

Agreed. But at least he's not one of the coaches any more.

ETA: Also, i think Morgan is a good appointment.

A recruitment manager I would say would be a lot easier and less disruptive to remove mid season than a coach, plus its a job where seemingly you cant blame others for any mistakes made.

On Webster when he joined us:

The 32-year-old guided the Wests Tigers juniors to the Under-20 playoffs this year.
He worked as Parramatta's Under-20 coach last year and had two stints as an assistant coach at Hull Kingston Rovers in the English Super League.

What does Wiki actually do - he was a high quality centre in his day, surely he should be helpful there?

Really good appointment. Morgan did well with an average HKR squad and being in melbourne will have help.
My assume he's after cappys job.

Interesting that our squad is 'almost' complete. They missed out on Nicholls and lost ika, I think we are looking for a fringe prop/second row depth signing

Few thoughts...main one being that Morgan is a superb get. In fact I'd happily swap him for head coach tomorrow. Liked him a lot as a player, did great things with Hull, has worked under Bellamy etc. The Storm's D was 2nd best in 2015 so he is as well placed as anyone to sort us out. Great, great bit of business. Will be interesting as to the working relationship McFadden has with him, he'll know Morgan will covet that role. And deserves it more.

Tony Iro as recruitment manager bores me to tears. We already had a former Kiwi who was crap at the job. Why do we think Tony is going to be any better? Been a real non entity as an assistant, and as I've said previous any staff member who Kevin Locke likes isn't doing their job right. I thought we had moved past the jobs for the boys crap.
